Job overview

If you want to be the best, then you should probably join us

The City Academy, Hackney is one of only seven schools in the country to have a Progress 8 score above 1 for 2016. In each of the three years the academy has sat GCSE exams, students have made exceptional progress and made the best progress of any co-educational school in the country in 2014. That is great news for our students, the academy and our community, but there is so much more that we know can be achieved and you can help.

We have a relentless ambition to deliver continuing success to the young people we serve. Our approach is based on very simple principles: clear systems and extremely high expectations. We focus on the development of our students, their values and ultimately their academic success. We maximise the impact of teaching by providing clear leadership, minimising bureaucracy and effective support that have tangible results on the quality of teaching and outcomes for our students.

The Role

You will be working with excellent staff and will play a leading role in developing the Design and Technology teaching for students in the academy. This exciting and challenging post requires an enthusiastic, hardworking, conscientious and energetic individual, teaching Food and Textiles subjects up to and including A level.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to shape the lives of young people in Hackney. If you think you can help transform the opportunities for the community we serve then we would like to hear from you.

About The City Academy, Hackney

I am delighted to invite you to consider one of the posts we have on offer at The City Academy, Hackney. I am confident that you will be impressed with the academic standards, behaviour and ethos we have established. We have created a high-quality Academy with the highest levels of achievement and self-discipline, and a broad, dynamic curriculum designed to help students achieve the highest personal and academic standards. We believe excellence is achieved through three key ingredients: clear structures, high expectations and strong relationships. Our outstanding curriculum is built around 'The City Experience' which places equal value on academic, creative, sporting, linguistic and personal development.

We pride ourselves on being a school which offers young people a warm and supportive environment, enabling them to meet our very high expectations. Our inspirational staff are skilled and committed and we are generously supported by The City of London Academies Trust. As a result of this, our students make exceptional progress.

We expect students to work hard and to show dedication and commitment to the Academy's rules. There are clear boundaries about the responsibilities of students both in terms of their conduct, and their self-respect and respect for others. In return, The Academy provides them with an excellent education both in terms of examination success and personal development helping them develop all the skills and values they will need to be successful in later life.

We are looking for staff who are committed to working with students of all abilities, who constantly seek to learn and improve and who are ambitious for themselves as well as for their students. We expect hard work, skill and dedication, and in return will provide a supportive, flexible working environment, first class training opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package.

There is a far reaching commitment to ensuring that all of our staff are given the access to excellent development and induction programmes. There is also a clear imperative, driven by Senior staff, to minimise bureaucracy and maximise impact, which to date has been hugely welcomed by staff and produced outstanding results for our students.

The City Academy is a very special place to work. If you think you want to join us in creating an exceptional Academy which transforms the opportunities for the community we serve then I would love to hear from you.
