Purpose of the Position

In addition to those professional responsibilities which are required of all classroom teachers in the school, the post holder’s key responsibility will be to focus on raising the standards of teaching, learning, achievement and attainment for pupils in upper school (Years 6,7 & 8) Design and Technology, along with ensuring top standards of the environment and care of the children prevails. The post holder is expected to fully support the vision, ethos and policies of the school.

Responsibilities & Duties

The post holder will be required to exercise their professional skills and judgment to carry out, in a collaborative manner, the professional duties set out below, but not limited to:

Teaching

  • Planning, preparing, reviewing and developing courses of study and lessons from Year 4 to Year 8;
  • Teaching, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to him/her, and assessing, recording and reporting on their development, progress and attainment;
  • Develop pupils creativity, forward thinking and skills to express their ideas
  • Promote and demonstrate new technologies as well as traditional methods;
  • Managing and overseeing the use and storage of equipment and teaching materials provided for class usage
  • Manage and supervise the work of classroom assistant(s) if appropriate;
  • Creating an atmosphere within the classroom and surrounding areas that will encourage learning;
  • In conjunction with the Academic Lead, overseeing the department’s record keeping as well as the setting and marking of internal exams and the writing of reports and other assessments.
  • Providing oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils, internally and to parents.


Pastoral care

  • Have a commitment to the importance of promoting and safeguarding pupils’ welfare
  • Promote the general progress and well being of individual pupils
  • Liaise with appropriate staff to ensure the correct implementation of the school’s pastoral systems
  • Alert appropriate staff to problems experienced by pupils and make recommendations as to how these may be resolved
  • Provide a supportive social and emotional environment for children, parents and staff
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils in accordance with the policies of the school and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere


 Public Relations

  • To be readily and enthusiastically available to Parents, displaying approachability and professionalism at all times.

Other

  • To comply with, and adhere to, agreed whole school policies, as set out in the Staff Handbook.
  • To assist pupils with preparation of examinations
  • Liaise effectively with other staff when planning and running events
  • Liaising effectively with other departments.
  • Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school
  • Establish effective working relationships and set a good example through personal and professional conduct
  • Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations
  • Take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Days 
  • Provide cover work in the event of staff absence
  • Supervise children during breaks
