Due to continued growth and success, Hazel Grove High School is looking to appoint a pro-active and dedicated Design & Technology Technician. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Laurus Trust family, and to play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the Trust. Support staff work tirelessly to ensure all services run smoothly and efficiently, enabling our teaching staff to focus on delivering an outstanding education for our students.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure all materials/equipment are set up ready for practical lessons or demonstrations and then retrieved, accounted for and returned to store after use
  • Ensure that teaching areas and equipment are kept in a safe and tidy manner
  • Undertake routine maintenance of general facilities and equipment ensuring any major faults are reported to the Head of Department
  • Carry out stock checks and place requisition orders for any items required
  • Be responsible for tracking, receiving, checking, and safely storing goods when delivered
  • Obtain various items for use in practical lessons
  • Ensure waste materials are disposed of in a correct and safe manner
  • Assist teaching staff in the running/supervision of individual practical sessions (i.e. GCSE assessments in the department)
  • Accurately maintain filing systems and support with photocopying worksheets, laminating and arranging classroom displays
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of workshop tools and equipment
  • Assist in the organisation of school visits with teaching staff

Key Skills & Experience

  • Must have experience and knowledge of safe usage, operation, cleaning, upkeep, minor repairs and maintenance of a wide variety of machinery and workshop equipment
  • A comprehensive understanding of design and technology methodologies and practices is essential
  • Must possess up to date knowledge of engineering design and construction techniques/solutions
  • Must have a sound educational background including GCSE’s in Maths and English (A*-C) or equivalent
  • Ideally possess a relevant qualification in Design and Technology subjects
  • Experience working in a school environment would be advantageous
  • Must possess excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload
