Focused on delivering Excellence for All, The Hertfordshire & Essex High School provides a vibrant and welcoming working environment in a popular, non-selective school with an excellent academic record. Rated as an ‘outstanding school with an outstanding sixth form’ in our last Ofsted inspection, Herts & Essex provides an excellent educational experience for students, and a first-rate experience for staff looking to develop their careers in education.

The School’s Design & Technology Department delivers lessons in Art & Design, Product Design, Textiles and Food Preparation & Nutrition. We are now looking to appoint a Design & Technology Technician to provide technical support primarily within Product Design, which covers topics such as mechanical devices, tools and equipment, design strategies and materials.

The appointed candidate will work closely with teaching staff and would be responsible for ensuring that lessons run smoothly and safely. They will set out any necessary equipment for practical lessons, give supervision to individual students working within the department and clear away equipment at the end of the lesson, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy. They will also maintain stock rooms, check stock levels, order supplies as and when required and ensure that tools and equipment are properly maintained. A good understanding of health and safety requirements in a workshop setting is essential.

The successful applicant will ideally have a background in construction or engineering. However, applications are welcome from anyone with practical skills that can be applied in a workshop setting such as DIY enthusiasts or those with a technical hobby.

This is a part-time post and there is some flexibility with working hours. Ideally, a minimum commitment of two days a week would be required.

To apply, please complete an application form (CVs will not be accepted).

Closing date: Midday on Tuesday 13 December 2022.

We reserve the right to close an advert once sufficient suitable applications have been received to form a short list. Early application is therefore encouraged.

Should you have any queries about the post or should you have any difficulties submitting your application, please email: admin@hertsandessex.herts.sch.uk or call the school on 01279 654127.

Herts & Essex is dedicated to supporting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the school community.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment. Appointment to this post will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks including satisfactory Criminal Records Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
