The role: 

In this role you will be working in partnership with teachers to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice, policies and procedures. The role will include preparing materials and equipment for practical lessons, carrying out weekly material and equipment checks in all the technology rooms and creating a stimulating learning environment. You will be expected to control and safely store all chemicals, flammables and specialised solutions, ensuring that current Health & Safety, COSHH and ESCC regulations are adhered to and be aware and always be responsive to any health and safety issues.  

The person: 

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working within a school or with young people, they will have the confidence to build relationships with students and colleagues and will be able to relate well to both children and adults. The ideal person will have a qualification in the relevant subject or will be able to show a willingness to achieve this.

Thank you for your interest in applying for a post at Selston High School. I am pleased that you wish to find out more about our school and in these few words I would like to give you a clear sense of our vision and priorities.

We are an 11-16 school with 874 pupils, Selston High School is proud of its excellent reputation locally as a safe, caring school with high standards and expectations. This is reflected in the number of students applying to come here, where for the last two years we have been oversubscribed.

First and foremost, Selston is a great place to work. Students and employees share high expectations of each other and we enjoy good relationships with parents who support the school’s aims.

The school’s aim is for every student to achieve their full potential and enjoy the experience of attending Selston High School. The school understands the importance of GCSE examination success for our students’ future life choices but we are also aware of our duty to prepare young people to go out into the world as good citizens, with good mental health who can make a positive contribution to their communities and the future.

We take great pride in the positive attitude and respectful behaviour of Selston students. They work hard, look smart, support each other and actively try to do well in all of their subjects. They are proud of the school and enjoy school.

At our Ofsted Inspection in April 2019, the school was again graded 'Good' in all areas.  We will not rest on our laurels but work tirelessly to provide the very best education for our students in order that they leave school with the confidence and ambition to take their place in the world as productive citizens. In the last OFSTED inspection, inspectors noted that, “Pupils are polite and courteous to each other. Mutual respect between pupils and staff is clearly evident. There is a convivial atmosphere during social times and a calm learning environment throughout lessons. Pupils feel safe, well cared for and supported in school.”

All employees at Selston are fully supported to develop professionally. Our in-house and Trust professional learning programme is a particular strength. All employees are encouraged and expected to tap into the array of opportunities on offer. As OFSTED noted “Staff morale is high and the school continues to improve.”
