Job Description- Design and Technology Technician and Makerspace Coordinator.
The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Design department to ensure the smooth running of the department and lessons and to ensure that teachers and students are supported in integrating the use of the Maker space into their teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Design and Technology Technician
Daily/Lesson Preparation
· In class support for Design Lessons (Resistant Materials, Textiles and Digital)
- Preparing, setting up and checking equipment before lessons.
- Ensure hand tools are stored correctly and in optimum condition.
- Regularly maintain the equipment and tools in the workshop and computer suite.
- Repair or organise repairs of equipment if necessary.
- Keep the classrooms organized and free from hazards.
- Assist the Design staff with the production of student work
- Supervise students when using machinery.
- Experience with woodwork, versatility in working with a range of materials, 3D CAD/CAM/Adobe programs desirable
General
- Organise materials and tools in the Department.
- Stock taking and ordering of materials and equipment.
- Assist with organisation of trips.
- To provide support for teachers during practical lessons.
- Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are met.
o Maintenance of machines and health and safety in Design rooms
o Familiarity with CLEAPPS/COSHH/PUWER regulations required
o Regular updates of departmental risk assessments pertaining to tools and materials
· Participate actively in departmental meetings
Makerspace Coordinator
Daily/Lesson Preparation
· Facilitate student learning in the Makerspace during PYP and MYP break-times and lunchtimes
· Assist teachers with classes using the Makespace.
· Keep the Makerspace room in order and keep equipment up to date
· Develop processes and equipment in the Makerspace
· In charge of Makerspace room bookings when outside of break and lunchtimes
General
· Participate actively in curriculum planning meetings within PYP and MYP and assist with curriculum development in the Makerspace throughout PYP and MYP by liaising with ISL Technology Specialista and class teachers.
· Develop the promotion of the Makerspace, inclusive of contributions to website, bulletin and yearbook articles
· Help facilitate clubs in Makerspace where necessary and offer one club per week.
Person Profile:
In the role you must be able to demonstrate:
- Educated to degree level and/or with an appropriate background in Design and Technology.
- Excellent approach; warm, friendly with good communication skills.
- Able to use own initiative, confident and able to motivate, influence and persuade others.
- Practical/hands on experience.
- Ability to show initiative and to prioritise tasks..
- Ability to work as part of a team and individually.
- Confident in the use of IT with basic knowledge of CAD desirable.
