Job overview

"Our mission is to provide an inclusive, international education in a safe, happy, supportive and stimulating environment where all the needs of the individual learner are met. Students are inspired to be the best they can be, enabling them to become responsible global citizens."

Design Technology Teacher

Design Technology is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews, and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13.

August 2017 will be a very exciting time to join St Andrews, as we open our new 11-18 Campus with a number of purpose built Design Technology and Computing rooms, located, along with the Art rooms and Science labs, in a beautiful building with a glass-roofed atrium.

All students currently study Design Technology as part of a carousel in Key Stage 3, with groups of students having two 70-minute lessons per week for five weeks before spending five weeks in ICT/Computer Studies. This allows much greater continuity for both students and teachers, as well as collaborative curriculum development. The current Design Technology curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, adapted to reflect both our location in South East Asia and the international nature of our students. From next year, Design Technology will be taught in Key Stage 3 as part of a new integrated Technology course, with students having two lessons each week and covering topics and skills from Design Technology, ICT and Computing Science.

Design Technology is also a popular subject at both IGCSE and at IB, and previous experience teaching these courses would be a significant advantage.

At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.

All Design Technology and ICT/Computing classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into these, and other areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.

St Andrews International School Bangkok was founded in 1997 on an attractive, conveniently located site which today is home to our Primary School. Today we are a school of more than 1,900 students representing some 55 nationalities ranging from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 13. In August 2017 we opened an additional campus at a nearby prime city centre location which delivers state of the art purpose-built learning facilities to our High School.

Our school provides a high quality, professional, well-resourced learning environment where each child’s talents and abilities are recognised and nurtured, and their needs supported. We are an inclusive school that welcomes students of all abilities. To ensure that all our children have an equality of opportunity, we have a professional Learning Support Department. This team works with class teachers to identify and support children in their learning across the school, whether they need extra help with their studies or have been identified as gifted and talented.
