TERMS & CONDITIONS: This is a permanent, full-time role; 08:30 – 16:30. Part-time working may be considered for the successful candidate, and there is flexibility around the conditions of the role.

SALARY: circa £45k – commensurate with experience

LINE MANAGEMENT: This post reports to the Head of Marketing & Communications

Job Description

Summary of Role: 

The Development Manager will be responsible, in conjunction with the Head of Marketing & Communications, for the school’s fundraising for our extensive Bursary provision. The Development Manager will have a focus on fundraising through identifying prospects, maintaining a donor database, developing fundraising appeals and providing long term stewardship of donors, alumnae and parents.  Excellent interpersonal skills, a readiness to engage with potential donors and school staff, and the ability to contribute to the school’s strategic aims are essential attributes. The successful candidate will fully understand the importance and significance of the school’s long-established provision of bursaries, and just how unique this is to our school’s ethos. 

Specific Responsibilities:

Fundraising

• To work with the Head of Marketing & Communications to create and implement a strategic plan for the school’s Development Department.

• To lead the school in its fundraising aims and targets.

• To develop and operationally manage fundraising campaigns including capital, legacy and annual appeals.

• To identify, manage and review a portfolio of alumnae and parent donor prospects. 

• To create and implement a cultivation plan for key prospects and provide donor stewardship. 

• To take responsibility for policies and protocols relating to the school’s fundraising compliance and relevant legislation.

• To maintain a donor database system, processing donations, maintaining Gift Aid records and ensuring records are accurate and complete.

• To be responsible for the content, performance and transactional capability of the Development area of the website. 

• To meet regularly with Head and Director of Finance to update on Development Projects.

Alumnae Relations

• To work with the Marketing & Alumnae Relations Officer to review and oversee the annual calendar of fundraising and alumnae events, ensuring they remain contemporary and extensive. 

• To develop, and work with the Marketing & Alumnae Relations Officer, a communications programme across multiple forms of media aimed at alumnae and parents. 

• To work with the Marketing & Alumnae Relations Officer to initiate alumnae groups, recruit local ambassadors and facilitate their activities and engagement. 

Operational

• To ensure that the school’s Development programme follows relevant legislation and supports the school’s values; with the Director of Finance to write and agree policies for accepting and stewarding gifts. 

• To devise and maintain a suite of targets and metrics for measuring the ongoing effectiveness of the school’s fundraising, in consultation with the Head of Marketing & Communications and Director of Finance. 

• To prepare termly progress reports for Governors and the JAGS Executive Team in conjunction with the Head of Marketing & Communications.

• To work with the Head of Marketing & Communications to build constructive relationships at all levels within and beyond the school community.

• To guide the Marketing & Alumnae Relations Officer’s work with the Head of Careers to strengthen the careers network for former and current pupils.
