Vacancy Description

North East Lincolnshire is a relatively small yet diverse Borough. It comprises the towns of Grimsby and Immingham, the resort of Cleethorpes and the surrounding Wolds villages. North East Lincolnshire Council is a unitary authority, serving a population of 158,000 people. The Council has two very clear priorities, to promote a stronger local economy and stronger communities.

We are a forward thinking Council and part of the Greater Lincolnshire devolution deal that provides great potential to accelerate our growth. Key to our success will be the relationship between educators, employers and providers. We want it to create choice, employability and opportunity and see the Director for Education, Skills and Lifelong learning as being instrumental to this ambition.

About the role

This is an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of forging a new kind of relationship between schools, the Local Authority and local employers. As an authority, we are the second most academised in the country. This creates both a need and an opportunity for, different ways of working and forming a shared vision between all the key stakeholders in order to work together to raise education standards, and provide our young people with the skills they need to secure employment within the area, and thereby improving the employability of all our young, without exception.

This newly created post will provide an essential lynch pin to encourage greater collaboration between schools, post 16 education providers, children’s services, development agencies and businesses. We understand that this does not come without its challenges but you can feel assured of our full support. As a Leadership Team we will work with you in helping to secure alternative ways for our other children’s and business-focused services to combine in contributing to this most critical agenda.

About you

Key to your own success will be your ability to develop and maintain effective relationships, influence and galvanize joint working between all stakeholders. You will be innovative in finding new ways to achieve the required outcomes and will be instrumental in finalising our Education and Skills Strategy. This will provide a clear framework and focus.

We believe it will be your talent and passion that will achieve results, as such, we do not require you to have qualified teacher status or specific experience. However, you will need to be able to establish credibility with schools and this will require you to have an in-depth knowledge of the education system or post 16 skills agenda through experience at a senior level in at least one of these. You will also have a good understanding of the Local Authorities role with academies, school improvement and the relationship between education, employment and business.

Closing Date: 10am Monday, 10th October 2016
