Job overview

The Department for Education recently announced national funding of £40m to create 21 Centres for Excellence for Basic Maths. Fareham College is pleased to be leading a collaborative network of Further Education Colleges working on this project. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Centre for Excellence for Basic Maths aims to be an innovative and ambitious centre that serves a core purpose to make sustained improvements in regional post-16 basic maths outcomes.

To ensure the project is successful we are looking for an exceptional leader to direct the collaborative work of the centre. Your experience in teaching and learning, your understanding of the pedagogy of mathematics teaching, your leadership skills and your ambition to make regional impact to post-16 basic maths will ensure the success of this project. Applications are invited from candidates with experience in any phase of education. The project is funded by the Department for Education for a three-year period, but may be extended beyond that initial period.     This is a new and exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the regional outcomes for post-16 maths!

Fareham College offers brand new state of the art facilities comprised of workshops, teaching classrooms, learning resource centres, restaurants, a theatre, a hair & beauty salon and associated facilities.  In November 2017, the College received an ‘Outstanding’ judgement in its latest Ofsted inspection, making it only one of three colleges in the country to have converted to the highest grade in more than two years.  It doesn’t stop there; we were awarded FE College of Year 2018 and “Most Improved Workplace” in Britain’s Healthiest Workplace Awards 2017.

Fareham College is leading a network of 10 other further education colleges to launch a Maths Centre of Excellence.  In this role you will work to build a strong collaboration aimed at improving maths attainment for 16 – 19 years olds.

The successful candidate will be a member of a team of over 300 academic and business support staff. We pride ourselves on providing the very best technical and professional training to set our students on the path to exciting and rewarding careers.

Ofsted report

“The proportion of students achieving their qualifications has risen significantly over the past two years and is high. The college focuses well on ensuring that students have a broad range of useful qualifications and a large number of students on advanced courses move on to further training or employment. Most lessons are good or better, with highly motivated students making good progress in lessons. Support for students is good. Teachers and tutors set challenging targets that ensure many more students will achieve higher grades than their prior attainment might predict.”
