Dunottar is a co-educational school for pupils aged 11-18 set in extensive grounds of 15 acres on the outskirts of Reigate.  With a new Headmaster in September 2017, the school is on a very exciting journey.  The school is experiencing fast growth in pupil numbers and it is undergoing a £6.6 million capital development programme to accommodate future growth.  Our new sixth form centre was completed in May 2019, with our new whole school Assembly Hall completed in October 2020.

The Drama Department


We are looking to employ a well-qualified and inspirational Drama Director part time for one year from September 2021.  


The role requires a dedicated and friendly individual who is also an ambitious and visionary practitioner of drama to work independently on productions, clubs and projects within the department and who is prepared to give full commitment to the aims and ethos of Dunottar School.   


Drama is a large part of Dunottar School life, with growing numbers of pupils opting to take GCSE and A Level drama each year. The Drama Department has a thriving co-curricular offering, with students participating in a whole school production, upper and lower school productions, a drama scholar showcase and the Shakespeare Schools Festival each year.





Key Responsibilities:

• To produce and direct all the School Drama productions of which there are usually 5 in total; Lower School play, Upper School play, Shakespeare School’s Festival, Musical and Scholar’s Show.

• Design the rehearsal schedule in accordance with the School schedule

• Communicate with parents and members of staff, where applicable

• Create a design and technical brief for the production and source all relevant technical and design elements independently

• Organise ticketing and marketing for the performances

• Monitor applicable Health and Safety factors throughout the process, including the updating of relevant risk assessments

• Design rehearsal sessions that develop pupils’ understanding and knowledge of Drama and Theatre as well as promising a successful outcome for the production

• Create a positive and welcoming rehearsal environment in which pupils will thrive

• To assist on other department productions, as required

• To run a range of co-curricular Drama (possibly Dance – candidate dependent) clubs to challenge and extend our students’ knowledge and understanding of Drama and Theatre outside the classroom:

• Clubs will be somewhat designed with the successful candidate’s skills / areas of interest in mind.

• To support in curricular Drama lessons

• Contribute to the practical performance work of A Level and GCSE groups, and support groups of pupils in the practical examination process

• Team-teach or assist with some lessons alongside the teacher of the class

• To deliver expert workshops

• Run one-off workshops on specialism area(s)

• Run seminars / talks on relevant topic

• To build links with other areas in the School and in the wider community

• To help to prepare and coach candidates for Drama School / university Drama auditions, where applicable

• To coordinate and run a Drama trip and support on GCSE ad A-level theatre visits

• To participate in major School events such as Open Days
