Merchiston International School (MIS) is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic and suitably experienced financial and administrative leader, ideally to commence work in January 2019. The appointee will be a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the Head of School, with further direct responsibilities to be carried out for the Board of Governors. 

The Opportunity

The opening of MIS in September 2018 created an exciting opportunity for a team of innovative and committed staff to work at a new, co-educational boarding and day school in Shenzhen, Southern China.  We are now looking for the right person to guide the school's financial and administrative development. 

The School

MIS is inspired by and closely connected with Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, which is the first Scottish independent school to be linked to a new international school anywhere in the world. The two schools are now setting an exciting agenda for innovation together, while at the same time remaining true to the values and ethos of the original Edinburgh foundation.

We have already attracted a great team of teaching and support staff who share the drive and vision of the school’s founders in order to establish an exciting new venture. Opening with 176 students across Junior and Senior Schools, we anticipate healthy growth in student numbers in 2019.

The school offers a rigorous British independent day and boarding school curriculum for international students aged 5 – 18, culminating in IGCSE and GCE A Level. The design of the campus creates the kind of innovative learning spaces in which a relevant and constantly evolving 21st century education can take place in the context of an established ethos.

Applicants should apply on line through the TES careers portal. Please provide the names and contact details of three referees, one of which should be your current line manager or Head of School.

Short-listed candidates will need to provide a recent DBS / PVG check, police clearance certificate or similar official record of non-criminality, demonstrating there is no reason why they cannot work with children. 

Due to national regulations, it is very unlikely that we will be able to secure a work permit or residence visa for anyone whose 60th or subsequent birthday takes place between August 1 2018 and July 31 2019.

The application should be submitted no later than October 30 2018. 

Ideally the appointee will be able to start with MIS in January 2019. However, the school would be prepared to wait for the right person if this was not possible. 

Initial on-line interviews will commence during week beginning October 22, with long listed candidates interviewed in the UK or on-line during week beginning November 5. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed in Shenzhen during week beginning November 12 2018.
