Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form is opening in September 2018 and will provide an outstanding vocational education and preparation for skills based work or transition to university for students in Croydon and those from surrounding boroughs. This new academy with up to date, state of the art facilities, will recruit students from across Croydon and the wider London area focusing on the hard skills that will be needed in an area undergoing considerable reconstruction and rejuvenation. By focusing from the outset on the goal of employability within a number of sectors, we have created a curriculum that challenges and inspires, creating well rounded students who have the drive and ambition to succeed in their chosen area of work with additional skill sets that put them above others competing for jobs in their chosen vocation.

The academy is looking for an outstanding, experienced individual to join our academy as Director of Construction.

Your role:

You will initially recruit, then lead a team who will deliver an excellent focused vocational provision in Construction courses for students for whom traditional pathways may not be appropriate, developing practical skills and knowledge related to local, national and worldwide employment needs.

The courses on offer within construction are:

  • Painting and Decorating up to level 3
  • Joinery up to level 3
  • Plumbing up to level 3
  • Bricklaying up to level 3
  • Plastering up to level 3

Who we are looking for:

You will have a recognised teaching qualification appropriate to one or more of the courses on offer and an excellent overview of the others, be highly motivated and have experience of managing a team of teaching and support staff. Ideally, you will have Industrial experience in one of the fields the academy offers. You will be keen to develop the wider employability skills of your students along with their technical skills, Maths and English. You will be comfortable teaching both practical and theoretical elements and confident using a wide range of teaching and learning methods including the use of modern technologies.
