Job overview

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

We have an opportunity for someone to join our team of five Directors of Curriculum & Support, each of whom is responsible for a Faculty and for the students and staff within it. Supported by Heads of Subject, Senior Tutors, a Faculty Administrator and other support staff specialists, the Director has a wide range of responsibilities including: curriculum provision; quality; student welfare, discipline and safeguarding; planning; budget; marketing; line management of staff. You will be joining an experienced team who work closely together to ensure consistency and quality of provision across the College. We welcome applications from candidates from any area of the curriculum.

You will be a qualified, highly experienced and exceptional sixth form teacher with management experience. Ideally this experience will have been obtained in a sixth form college, in either a curriculum or pastoral role, preferably both. You will have strong leadership skills, be an excellent communicator and ready to take on a significant level of responsibility. You will have direct involvement with complex individual pastoral cases, so you will have extensive experience of student casework. In order to fulfil this role, you will need to have empathy with young people, a detailed understanding of safeguarding matters, good judgement and personal resilience. You will also need a good awareness of issues in post 16 education.

This is a full-time contract with a teacher’s terms and conditions at its base, so you will be a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme unless you opt out. You will be expected to work term time and Enrolment Week plus ten additional days above the normal teaching contract, to include key dates such as A level results day. You will be at the heart of the management of the College, so we seek flexibility and a readiness to contribute to the wider life of the organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make the move into a senior role in an exceptional college.

Ideally, the successful candidate will join us at the start of the summer term in April 2022, but we have some flexibility for a delayed start if necessary.

Closing date:  12 noon on Monday 31 January 2022

Interview date: Thursday 10 February 2022
