Director of Curriculum & Support Ref 15/21

Peter Symonds CollegeHampshire

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

The College is led by a senior management team with the assistance of non-teaching specialists and Directors of Curriculum & Support, each of whom is responsible for a Faculty and for the students and staff within it. As a result of growth over recent years, we are increasing our number of faculties from four to five and therefore seek to appoint a new Director. Supported by Heads of Subject, Lead Tutors, a Faculty Administrator and other postholders, the Director has a wide range of responsibilities including: curriculum provision; quality; student welfare, discipline and safeguarding; planning; budget; marketing; line management of staff. You will be joining an experienced team of Directors who work closely together to ensure consistency and quality of provision across the College. It has yet to be determined which curriculum areas will be allocated to each Director; we welcome applications from candidates from any area of the curriculum.

You will be a qualified, highly experienced and exceptional sixth form college teacher with management experience. Ideally this experience will have been obtained in a sixth form college, in either a curriculum or pastoral role. You will have strong leadership skills, be an excellent communicator and ready to take on a significant level of responsibility. You will have direct involvement with complex individual pastoral cases, so you will have extensive experience of student casework. In order to fulfil this role, you will need to have empathy with young people, a detailed understanding of safeguarding matters, good judgement and personal resilience. You will also need a good awareness of issues in post 16 education.

This is a full-time contract with a teacher’s terms and conditions at its base, so you will be a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme unless you opt out. You will be expected to work term time and Enrolment Week plus ten additional days above the normal teaching contract, to include key dates such as A level results day. You will be at the heart of the management of the College, so we seek flexibility and a readiness to contribute to the wider life of the organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make the move into a senior role in an exceptional college.

Please note that posts advertised to start in September 2021 actually commence with student enrolment in August.  You will normally be required to work this week but should you have an existing commitment this year, please make this clear on your application and we will honour it.

Closing date:  12 noon on Monday 12 April 2021

Interview date: Thursday 22 April 2021
