Job overview

We wish to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic individual to the role of Director of Drama. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the academic and co-curricular aspects of the department within newly refurbished rehearsal and theatre spaces. You should have excellent qualifications, as well as relevant teaching experience, up to and including A level. For the right candidate, the opportunity to become Head of the Creative Arts Faculty may be available. 

The Drama department plays a significant role in the continuing success of the School. Our Director of Drama must have the ability to inspire young people to participate in a range of performance activities and must be able to rehearse and direct small and large scale productions to a high standard. 

A willingness to fully embrace the co-curricular opportunities at the school is expected including the management and leadership of trips and visits. 

King Edward’s has its own generous salary scale, as well as a range of benefits including private medical insurance, the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, and a reduction in school fees. A timetable remission sufficient for the responsible nature of the post will be provided.

King Edward VI School is a leading HMC Independent day school for children aged 11 – 18. King Edward’s is a school with a long and distinguished history and it has been at the heart of Southampton for over 460 years. The School has occupied 4 different sites, relocating to the purpose built site on Hill Lane in 1938. It became fully independent in 1979 and co-educational in 1994.
