St George’s School in Gondar, Ethiopia is a charitable venture of London’s Broomwood Hall School.

St George’s currently educates 250 children aged 5-9 completely free of charge, with a new intake of 50 due to start in October. All the pupils come from a background of extreme poverty and deprivation, and are for the most part orphans or double orphans.

We are looking for a Director of Education to ensure that St George’s remains true to the ideals and teaching methods of Broomwood Hall, whilst taking an active part in the management, running and future development of the school. The job is based in Ethiopia during term times

St George’s currently has an academic staff of 24, plus a further 21 ancillary staff all working to provide an education to the highest quality western standards, with a curriculum, ethos and philosophy that mirrors that of Broomwood Hall. Over the next five years, it is planned that St George’s will build up to its full size of up to 1000 children, aged 5-18.

The package on offer comprises a modest salary, plus accommodation and all living expenses, and flights to and from the UK three times a year. There will be many opportunities for travel, both in Ethiopia and the surrounding countries.

About St. George’s School

St George’s School in Gondar, Ethiopia, is a charitable venture of Northwood Schools, supported by the Parents Association. It has been built from scratch in the last six years, and currently educates 350 children aged 5-11 completely free of charge, with a new intake of 50 5-year-olds due to start in October. All the pupils come from a background of extreme poverty and deprivation, and are for the most part orphans or double orphans. 

St George’s currently has an academic staff of 29 (head teacher, class teachers and classroom assistants), plus a further 22 ancillary sta  (o ce, accounting, catering, maintenance and security).

St George’s is intended to provide an education to the highest quality western standards, with a curriculum, ethos and philosophy that mirrors that of Northwood's Broomwood Hall School in South West London. Over the next five years, it is planned that St George’s will build up to its full size of up to 700 children, aged 5-18.
