About the Role
An established Asian education group, currently operating the prestigious Epsom College in Malaysia, is seeking a Director of Education to spearhead its expansion into new markets, including Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as oversee the establishment of two additional international schools in Malaysia.
Reporting to the group CEO, this role is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and involves frequent travel across Asia.
This position is ideal for a dynamic and ambitious educational leader with senior leadership experience in a respected international school, ready to embrace a strategic role on a regional scale.
Key Responsibilities
1) Academic Leadership & Curriculum Development
- Design and adapt curricula to align with the educational regulations and cultural contexts of Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam while upholding the group's commitment to academic excellence.
- Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to ensure educational offerings meet market demands and align with school positioning.
- Establish and implement academic policies, standards, and frameworks for all new schools, ensuring coherence with the group’s existing educational philosophy.
2) Talent Acquisition & Training
- Recruit, mentor, and train exceptional academic leaders and educators for new schools, ensuring a robust pipeline of high-quality talent.
- Develop comprehensive teacher training programs to ensure teaching excellence across all campuses.
- Cultivate a collaborative and innovative educational culture throughout the group’s schools.
3) Strategic Expansion & Regional Leadership
- Collaborate with investors, regulators, and accreditation bodies to secure smooth approvals and ensure compliance in each new market.
- Provide thought leadership by keeping abreast of international education trends, ensuring schools remain competitively positioned on a global scale.
- Represent the group in educational forums, industry networks, and partnerships to enhance its profile and reputation across Asia.
Who We Are Looking For
- A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in a respected international school at a senior leadership level, though not necessarily as a school head.
- Extensive knowledge of British, IB, or other international curricula, with considerable experience in curriculum design and implementation.
- Proven success in school start-ups, academic leadership, or international school expansion is highly desirable.
- Exceptional people leadership and talent development skills, with the ability to recruit, inspire, and nurture educators.
- Strong cross-cultural understanding, preferably with experience in Asia.
- Willingness to be based in Kuala Lumpur with frequent regional travel.
