At GEMS School of Research and Innovation, we provide a seamless educational journey from Pre-Prep + Prep to Sixth Form, enhanced by cutting-edge technology and a forward-thinking curriculum. The Director of Education Technology and STEM leads the integration of innovative technologies and STEM education across the school, fostering a research-driven culture that equips students and staff with the skills to thrive in a technology-driven world. The role combines strategic leadership, curriculum innovation, and stakeholder engagement to create immersive, future-ready learning environments. 

 

Key accountabilities are to:

  • Drive the implementation of AI-enabled learning and integration of emerging technologies into the curriculum.
  • Oversee personalized, competency-based education through digital tools and innovative pedagogical approaches.
  • Manage and enhance STEM, innovation, and computer science programs across the school.
  • Deliver lessons in a specialist area such as innovation, computer science and gaming.
  • Line Manage STEM, Innovation and Computer Science across the school.
  • Facilitate professional development for staff in digital literacy and effective use of the digital ecosystem.
  • Support student-led projects in areas like robotics, app development, and sustainable design, collaborating with industry experts.
  • Establish partnerships with global technology leaders to integrate cutting-edge tools and certifications into learning.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of technology integration on academics, sports, arts, and performing arts.
  • Lead interdisciplinary collaboration and foster co-agency in curriculum design, assessment, and student pathways.
  • Ensure inclusivity by implementing digital strategies tailored to individual learning needs, including Students of Determination and those with gifts and talents.
  • Promote stakeholder engagement through workshops, forums, and data-driven improvements.
  • Oversee the seamless operation of the school’s digital ecosystem, including learning, pastoral care, and administration.
  • Facilitate participation in external events and competitions, such as the Global Innovation Challenge and UNESCO initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, equality, GDPR, and Health and Safety policies.
  • Pursue continuous professional development to remain at the forefront of educational technology leadership.

Skills

Successful candidates will need to:

  • Embody and role model our core values of integrity, empathy and fortitude in everything they do
  • Hold a Master’s degree in Information Technology, Educational Technology, or related field (Essential)
  • Hold a BEd or Bachelors degree with PGCE / PGDE or equivalent
  • Certifications in emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, or Data Science (Desirable). Online certifications/courses accepted e.g. Google, Microsoft, Coursera, etc. Education related is desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of global trends, emerging technologies, educational technologies and their application to K-12 settings.
  • Proven track record in managing complex IT projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and stakeholder needs.
  • Have a willingness to collaborate and share their outstanding practice
  • Have a growth mindset, whereby they are reflective and solution focused
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills to work closely with colleagues, students and parents
  • Be willing to make a positive contribution to our school community and culture through active engagement in our extra-curricular programme and community-based events.
