Job overview

Government policy dictates that all students enrolling on a Study Programme of 150 hours or more who do not hold a GCSE grade A*-C / 4 - 9 or equivalent qualification in English are required to continue to study this subject. It is a further condition that full-time students enrolling on a Study Programme with prior attainment of a grade D / 3 GCSE or an equivalent qualification in English must be enrolled on a GCSE rather than a stepping stone qualification.

Derby College is one of the largest colleges in the country, with the significant majority of its provision for 16-19 year olds.  Of these, on average each year approximately 65% join the College without English and our GCSE resit programme supports around 1,000 students.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to continue the strategic development of our GCSE English curriculum, and associated stepping stones of Functional Skills, and to embrace the challenge outlined above.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of improving GCSE outcomes for students. You will be an experienced leader with the ability to inspire and motivate a large delivery team to high levels of performance, ensuring the delivery of an outstanding experience for our students associated with excellent teaching and learning.

As an expert in English GCSE teaching and leadership, you will be qualified to degree level, have a recognised teaching qualification and experience of successful management within English. In return we can offer you a fresh challenge and a rewarding opportunity.

We are also seeking to appoint a Director of Maths and consideration will be given to any applicant interested in undertaking a combined Director of English and Maths position.

Please note: Interviews will take place w/c 9th October 2017

A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
