Job overview

GRADED ‘GOOD’ by OFSTED in 2016

The Wellington Academy is a highly inclusive, innovative school, which opened in 2009 to serve the Tidworth area of Wiltshire and is situated on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border, within close proximity of the A303 and A34. Recently graded ‘Good’ by OFSTED, the Wellington Academy has transformed itself into a high performing school over the past three years.

Our staff charter underlines our belief that all students can achieve, be happy and have limitless aspirations– and our job as professionals is to ensure this happens. All our staff sign up to these aspirations and play a full role in contributing to this vision through inclusive teaching. We seek to recruit dedicated and talented staff, highly committed to making a difference in the state system.

OFSTED noted that: ‘The quality of school leadership has improved since the previous inspection. As a result, expectations of what pupils can achieve are higher.  Leaders have created a culture in which high standards of behaviour are expected and pupils are encouraged to succeed.’

We are seeking to recruit a Director of English, if you have a passion for your subject, a desire to inspire every student and fellow colleagues then we would like to hear from you. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable evidence of strategically leading and operationally managing the curriculum, the teaching and learning provision and practice within an English department. This role has the potential for teaching across part or all of the age range (from years 7 – 13) as the subject is very popular at Sixth Form level.

If you believe you have the commitment and desire to work in an environment which seeks to contribute to limitless aspirations as well as set and maintain high standards and expectations then please apply using the Academy’s online application form, available with Job Description and Person Specification from our website at: www.thewellingtonacademy.org.uk

Closing date: Midday, Wednesday 13th December 2017.

Interviews will take place week commencing: Monday 18th December 2017.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to references and an enhanced DBS check before confirmation. The Wellington Academy is an equal opportunities employer.

The campus is a no smoking site.

The Wellington Academy, as part of the Ascend Learning Trust, offers opportunities that are quite unique in a state school. There is something for every student to participate in; be it the Combined Cadet Force; Wheeler programme; Global Leadership China project; The Talent Tap and China Internship, as well as having a host of other opportunities to succeed both at school or beyond. This year a large group of our students have had the opportunity to serve internships in top London companies and also work in China and Thailand at our sister schools for a year.

Our curriculum is focused on ensuring every student is equipped to leave school ready to achieve their dreams and fulfil their goals. In addition to English, Maths and Science we continue to reintroduce more of the creative subjects. We know the impact these can have on building confidence and an enjoyment of school. We want students to have the chance to exhibit their talents, be it in drama, dance, music or sport. The Academy’s stunning theatre, dance studio, music practice rooms and sporting facilities are second to none and we look forward to sharing these talents with you as parents/carers through performances at school.

The Wellington Academy sits at the heart of the community. It is here to serve and we work closely with charities and our local primary schools. We provide support in the delivery of subjects such as French and run sports days. We value our close ties with other organisations; it is likely that your child will already know us well! Our links with the army are very strong; we welcome the diversity and cultural variety its presence gives to the school. Children who have recently moved from other parts of the country, returned from abroad and those who have joined our Boarding House, offer an insight into an international world with all its unlimited potential.
