Swanshurst is a large, “Outstanding” and oversubscribed school. The Head Teacher and Governors are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and highly effective professional who can lead the financial and the support services of the school. We invite applications from qualified accountants who have broad and demonstrable experience of operating at a financial director level, with outstanding leadership and communication skills.

Key responsibilities:
-Day to day management of the annual budget (in excess of £11m) alongside maintaining a longer term 3 to 5 year strategic overview
-Ensure the effective operation of financial controls within the school and ensure the school receives value for money in all its spending
-Prepare financial reports for the Governing Body and returns to the Local Authority
-Ensure compliance including all areas of school finance, premises, health and safety and other statutory obligations
-Fulfil the statutory functions of a Finance Director as set out in the Schools Financial Regulations and Financial Value Standard
-Management of all non-teaching operational matters including line management of the school’s finance team, HR Manager and facilities management staff
-Oversight and overall responsibility for school’s payroll alongside the Local Authority
-Standard month-end and year-end financial management processes, budgetary reports, bank reconciliations and for ensuring all internal controls are maintained
-Highly effective support of the Governing Body’s Finance and Staffing Committee, enabling them to discharge their duties
