Headteacher: Mr S Whitehead BA NPQH

Number on Roll: 971

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified Director of Learning for Mathematics to provide inspirational leadership as well as demonstrating expertise and commitment to the development of teaching and learning in Mathematics. The successful candidate will focus relentlessly upon giving students opportunities for success both within and beyond the classroom in addition to providing stimulating and engaging learning experiences. They will lead a dedicated team of subject specialists who in recent years have secured strong examination results at all levels. This position has arisen due to the promotion of the current post holder to the Senior Leadership Team.

Working at King James I Academy will provide the opportunity to join a dedicated team of staff whose mission is to become an outstanding academy that develops successful, well rounded, socially mobile and confident young people who can contribute effectively to the global community.

The school has operated as a standalone Academy since June 2011 and has since benefitted from the PSBP programme; enabling a move to new state of the art facilities in January 2015. Student recruitment is strong and the Academy has been oversubscribed in Year 7 for each of the last 4 years.

Examination results in Key Stage 4 have improved steadily over time, with mathematics results in 2020 and 2021 being broadly in line with national figures.

We are now looking to recruit a talented, ambitious and creative leader to take a significant role leading our Mathematics Department. We need an experienced teacher who will lead by example, is a team player, resilient, with excellent organisational and communication skills and with a desire to develop other staff within the department. Most importantly we need a leader who takes pride in building relationships with staff and students and believes strongly in the ability of all students both within and beyond the classroom.  You will be able to inspire and motivate colleagues and students alike, and will be supported through a bespoke and individually tailored induction programme as well as being given opportunities and support for further career and professional development. We would welcome applicants with experience of teaching AS/A Level Mathematics, but this is not essential.

Closing Date: 12pm Monday 11th October 2021

Interviews: Week Beginning 18th October 2021

Please ring or email the Academy for an application pack. If you would like to arrange to visit the Academy, or an informal discussion with the Head, please contact Karen Sams, PA to the Headteacher kingjames@kj1a.com or on 01388 603388. Please note that completed applications must be returned to the above email address, or by post to King James I Academy, South Church Road, Bishop Auckland, County Durham DL14 7JZ by 12:00pm on the closing date.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding children.  All candidates will need to demonstrate a commitment to the welfare and safety of children and young people.  Any offer of employment will be conditional upon receipt of two supportive references and the successful completion of pre-employment checks.  An application to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be submitted when the successful candidate has accepted the position.
