Job overview

The Leigh Academy has an exciting opportunity to appoint an inspirational and outstanding practitioner to lead our Humanities faculty from September 2023. This role is ideal for those seeking to inspire our incredible students and also our team of dedicated, talented and experienced staff. We can offer a supportive and professional environment to be a part of and fully embed yourself into from day one, the opportunity to work under a strong and dynamic leadership team whose aim is to achieve excellence for all, and a team of talented staff at all stages of their career, covering the specialisms associated with this role.

The faculty has an impressive array of 7 subjects with a team of 10 staff. The Director of Learning is responsible for overseeing and managing three Coordinators of Learning who have responsibilities for individual or a group of subjects, as well as classroom teachers of our subjects. The subjects themselves are History, Geography, RE, Global Politics, Psychology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Health and Social Care. In the year just passed we had exceptionally good results at Key Stage 4 and 5, particularly in History, RE and Health and Social Care, with Psychology and Geography experiencing their best results ever. We are very proud of Key Stage 3 too, as it goes beyond requirements in the National Curriculum as part of the IB Middle Years Programme, helping our learners become internationally minded.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to join an academy which is committed to providing high-quality professional development opportunities. Every Wednesday our students finish at 2pm to allow for dedicated professional development time. In addition to this, our appointed candidate will have access to many Trust benefits including membership to the National College, bespoke PD opportunities and cross-trust collaboration.

We are keen to hear from you if:

  • You are passionate about your subject
  • You have the ability and drive to make a positive impact on students’ progress and outcomes
  • You have the drive to transform our learning and are dedicated to raising standards even further for all students

In return, we are offering:

  • A supportive and professional environment to be a part of and full embed yourself into from day one
  • The opportunity to teach at Key stage 3, 4 and Post 16 A Level and IB diploma groups
  • The chance to join and be part of an academy that has a strong, dynamic leadership team whose aim is to achieve excellence for all
  • A team of talented staff at all stages of their career, covering the specialisms assigned to this role
  • Well motivated and receptive learners across our academy
