Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Director of Learning for our mathematics faculty. Your innovative leadership and passion will ensure we instil in every student a life-long love of number and the wonder of mathematics. You will develop cutting-edge pedagogy for mathematics so that students at Green Spring Academy out-perform all national measures.

Our staff and students have already identified what they expect you to be like:

  • You are a consistently outstanding teacher with an infectious enthusiasm for mathematics.
  • You love working with students and staff in classrooms to ensure all learners achieve their best.
  • You have an unshakeable belief that all children deserve an excellent school and you want to be part of making Green Spring Academy Shoreditch outstanding.
  • You inspire others and help everyone unlock their potential as learners, teachers and leaders.
  • You have been very successful as a teacher and leader and made a significant contribution to raising standards in mathematics.

Green Spring Academy Shoreditch - Mathematics Faculty

This is an opportunity to lead an established and enthusiastic team committed to ensuring the highest possible outcomes for all students. You would lead a team of 8 specialist teachers, supported by an experienced second in charge and a KS3 and KS5 lead.

The department promotes a culture of high expectations with high-quality teaching and learning the primary focus. The team has already worked to establish a mastery curriculum at KS3 that has been designed to enable all students to develop the deep conceptual understanding required to make rapid and sustained progress in mathematics. A focus on reasoning and problem-solving continues in to KS4 and supports the strong outcomes students achieve at GCSE. At KS5 new schemes have been created in line with the new Pearson A level specification to further promote that deep understanding and love of the subject.

At the Academy you will find a strong focus on professional development at all levels and within the department a clear drive from all to develop pedagogy and continue to raise the quality of learning and teaching. Our aim is to strive ever further in raising our expectations of and the challenge for students. We believe there is no limit to what our students can achieve with excellent teaching.

The department has a record of excellent results at GCSE with a strong progress 8 score across all groups. A Level results have shown a three year trend of improvement. At both KS4 and KS5, we continue to focus on raising outcomes for higher-attaining students.

The faculty is generously resourced with a dedicated suite of classrooms and timetabled access to a computer suite.  Mathematics has 13% of curriculum time at KS3 (Y7-8) and 18% at KS4 (Y9-11). We are keen that our students have access to mathematics enrichment opportunities where possible; games, competitions, events and themed days play a prominent role.

The mathematics and science faculties share a Link Senior Leader and are increasingly working together to share best practice and develop common pedagogical approaches to support our students with the increased demands of mathematics and science, and to connect the learning between the two disciplines.

Directors of Learning work as a group to develop and lead practice that supports the academy’s high expectations of all that students and staff can achieve.  They meet weekly, with Senior Leaders and Heads of Year, and are supported by an extensive Leadership Learning programme.

This is an exciting time to be joining Green Spring Academy Shoreditch as it prepares to join Mulberry Schools Trust.  Opportunities for collaboration across the Trust will enable best practice to be readily shared and professional development accelerated.
