Job overview

The post holder will provide strategic leadership in each of the three areas named in the job title and will line-manage the publications and admissions teams.  S/he will be responsible for advising the School on the appropriate strategic direction and for the development and implementation of a marketing communications strategy.  This is therefore a demanding and wide-ranging post.  It is not the intention to finalise a detailed job description at this stage, but it will be for the successful candidate to agree with the Headmaster a definitive job description, within the scope of the overall responsibilities outlined, during his/her first year in post.  It is anticipated that the role will evolve over the coming years to suit the particular strengths of the successful candidate and to complement those of SLT colleagues.

HCS is a selective day and boarding school, offering an academically strong and supportive environment. The school is friendly, happy and busy with highly effective monitoring of pupils’ progress and well-being.  It combines academic rigour and high standards with warmth and encouragement, and its principal aim is to develop the potential of all pupils in every aspect of their education. Great value is placed on the wider curriculum in helping pupils develop personal qualities, such as resilience, independence and integrity, within the context of a holistic and happy educational experience.

On the site of Embley Park, the home of Florence Nightingale, the school sits at the heart of Romsey community’s history. Romsey is an important commuter town and is a very popular place to live because of its excellent facilities, its charming and busy town centre and superb communications: very close proximity to the M3 and M27 and only an 80-minute train journey into London. In the locality there are a number of good primary and preparatory schools which act as important feeder schools to HCS.

We are an equal opportunities employer and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and enhanced DBS clearance.
