Job overview

Loretto School is a leading independent boarding and day school located on the outskirts of Edinburgh. We seek a dynamic Director of Music to lead and develop children’s talents and the musical life of the Senior School. The successful applicant could begin as early as January 2023 or later in the year. The Junior School has its own Head of Music and close collaboration between the two schools enhances the progress of all the children. The post will attract current Directors of Music with an established track record or an ambitious Deputy who is ready to step up and take responsibility for this key area of school life.

The successful candidate should be GTCS (General Teaching Council, Scotland) registered or be eligible to become registered. With an enthusiasm for the subject applicants should be talented teachers who can teach up to A level. Equally as important is a strong commitment to co-curricular music and an ability to inspire children who have musical talents and those whose interests lie elsewhere. Loretto has a fine tradition of whole school Chapel singing and a wide range of ensembles, an orchestra and contemporary music groups.

Loretto is a busy and vibrant boarding school and applicants should be excited about working in an environment where staff are fully committed in term time.

Loretto children are friendly, engaging and eager to learn. Musselburgh, on the eastern edge of Edinburgh, is a terrific location to work. The city with its rich culture is on the doorstep and the countryside and East Lothian coastline lie to the east.

This is a full-time permanent post. Loretto has its own salary scale and salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role.

Application

We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates who are excited at the prospect of taking Music at Loretto to new heights. If you think that this is the right opportunity for you please send a completed application form and covering letter to HR@Loretto.com. A full job description is available on request.
