Job overview

Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong seeks an outstanding and inspirational music educator and leader to join the Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong. This is an outstanding opportunity to make a contribution in one of Asia’s most successful and well known international schools.

Our philosophy draws on 400 years of experience in education from our founding, partner school, Dulwich College in London, which has pioneered the development of British independent education in Asia. Our guiding philosophy is that students come first. We are committed to securing the highest possible standards of teaching and learning and to ensuring that all our students enjoy a rich and varied experience of education.

Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong has a busy and vibrant music department, providing exceptionally high quality music education for students from aged 2 to 18 both in specialist-taught music lessons and a thriving co-curricular programme. The department benefits from purpose-built accommodation for all age groups including four music classrooms, eight individual practice rooms, a fully equipped recording studio and a large rehearsal room.

Practical music-making is a core part of college life, with students from complete beginners to post-diploma level taking part in 20 ensembles, 9 rock bands, and 390 individual instrumental and singing lessons each week. The department has a busy schedule of concerts and performances, ranging from relaxed weekly busking to our high profile Founder’s Day performances to an audience of over 1000 and from festive carol singing in the local community to DUCKS, Junior and Senior School Musical Theatre productions in our purpose-built theatre.

Alongside college-based music-making, students and staff also have regular opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from across the Dulwich College International network and beyond in annual events such as the International Schools Choral Music Society festival, Dulwich Festival of Music, Dulwich Music, Art, Drama and Dance festival, and Vienna Choir Tour with the Vienna Boys Choir. There are also regular chances to work with external musicians, with highlights in recent years including workshops with the Royal Northern College of Music, Berkley College of Music, the Wisemann Brass Ensemble and the Roy McGrath Jazz Quartet.
