This is an exciting opportunity for an inspirational individual to take forward a high profile and vibrant music department in a thriving HMC school. Our next Director of Music will build upon the exceptional leadership of our current Director, who retires after over 25 years of outstanding service, and ambitiously take music at NULS on to the next stage of its evolution. The department comprises of a highly able team and the new Director of Music will have responsibility for the strategic oversight of Music across our Preparatory School, Senior School and Sixth Form. The Music team comprises of the Director of Music, the Preparatory School Teacher of Music, a part-time Senior School Teacher of Music and a large contingent of highly competent peripatetic Music staff, some of whom play key supporting roles in leading bands and inputting to concerts.

NULS was founded c.1602 and its academic calibre is renowned in the area. Working at NULS has many benefits, including small classes, an excellent student ethos, superb facilities and a highly supportive approach towards ongoing professional development. In 2022, NULS’ exceptional results of 65% Grade 7-9 at GCSE and 83% A*-B at Advanced Level led once again in Staffordshire with NULS routinely ranked very highly indeed in national league tables. NULS’ momentum and standing continues to reach new heights after being awarded the highest possible gradings under Independent School Inspection. Our 35 acre site provides a wonderful environment for teaching, learning and extracurricular provision across our Prep and Senior sites. The school has recently embarked on an ambitious development programme to build on its academic strengths and wishes to appoint an aspiring and able Director of Music keen to build on all of the department’s successes and strengths as they lead this key area of school life forwards to the next exciting stage of its evolution.
