An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional and inspirational candidate to lead the Music department at Sydenham High School from September 2018. 

We are seeking to appoint an accomplished musician with energy and vision to lead our Music Department through to the next stage of its development. A proven track-record in leadership is preferable, but not essential, and the ideal candidate must be driven by a firm ambition to ensure that Music is central to the life of the School. The Director of Music will be responsible for the strategic direction of the department, both academically and from a co-curricular perspective and the successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Music, providing and facilitating opportunities for girls to participate in the musical life of the school, as well as developing elite musicians. 

Our pupils enjoy success across a diverse range of instruments, groups and ensembles.  The department has its own purpose built accommodation and is endowed with an impressive Recital Hall. As Director of Music, the right candidate will play a pivotal role in continuing to build the reputation and profile of Music at Sydenham High School, to help ensure that it continues to be a first choice for parents and girls in the area. 

Established in 1887, Sydenham High is an independent day school for girls aged 4-18 with just under 600 pupils. Situated in the leafy suburbs of South-East London and with excellent transport links, the community at Sydenham High School benefits from excellent facilities and is a warm, happy and welcoming place to work. Sydenham High School is a mainstream, independent, all-through girls' school with sixth form, situated in Lewisham, south-east London. The school caters for over 750 students aged 4-18.

Sydenham High School was founded in 1887 by the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the leading group of independent girls’ schools in the UK. The Senior and Prep Schools have their own grounds located minutes apart and an 8 acre sportsground, used by all pupils, is a 20-minute drive from the school.
