Job purpose:

To provide cross-College leadership in ensuring the highest standards of student assessment, progress, achievement and transition and to develop and support continuous quality improvement

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Senior Management Team, take an active role in senior management strategic planning and contribute to the development and implementation of the College Management Plan
  •  Line manage the Directors of Learning and Curriculum, Registrar, Student Recruitment Manager, Transition/Employment Engagement and Hub Coordinator and MIS Manager, ensuring all teams work together and with colleagues across the College to achieve their objectives and provide a high quality experience at all stages of the student journey
  • Lead on and drive quality improvement and the student journey, from initial contact with RNC through to transition beyond the College
  • Chair the Education and Skills Quality assurance Committee (ESQAC), ensuring that the annual quality cycle is clearly defined and delivered. Work collaboratively with Directors and College Managers to provide half termly quality reports to the SMT and termly reports to the Education and Training Committee of the Board
  • Lead on preparation for all external audits, monitoring visits and inspections that are student provision-focused
  • Undertake the role of nominee for Ofsted inspections under the Education Inspection Framework and the Social Care Common Inspection Framework
  • Lead the co-ordination, preparation and completion of the College annual Self-Assessment Report (SAR), ensuring that all outcome data, survey analysis, stakeholder feedback and departmental self-assessment reports contribute to the process
  • Lead on the content and implementation of the College Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and routinely monitor progress and impact on students and provision
  •  Work closely with the Directors of Learning and Curriculum to ensure focused quality improvement activities including Teaching and Learning Observations (TALO), learning walks, student tracking and monitoring of student progress recording
  •  With the Registrar and Directors of Learning and Curriculum, ensure that Pre Entry Assessment Reports, short reports and annual reviews are produced in a timely fashion and to a high standard and that all local authority, Welsh Government and legislative deadlines are met
  • Contribute to guiding and supporting continuous improvement in teaching processes including implementation of coaching plans
  • In liaison with the HR manager, monitor the performance management cycle and contribute to the co-ordination and delivery of CPD planning
  • In liaison with the Director of Student Support Services, contribute to the planning and implementation of student voice quality improvement initiatives including pulse surveys, focus groups and College committees
  • Where required, support the review of student-related policies ensuring adherence to current legislation, professional best practice and published guidance as appropriate.
  • Support the development, implementation and review of strategies to improve the engagement of students with their educational programme
  • Ensure the MIS team provides accurate and timely data for College leaders to evaluate effectiveness with regard to outcomes for students, quality of teaching, learning and residential support, and effectiveness of leadership and management
  • Have oversight of ensuring that all students receive tailored information, advice and guidance on transition beyond RNC throughout their placement, including relevant work experience placements
  • Have oversight of ensuring that access arrangements are in place for all students and that exams are run efficiently and in line with examination board requirements
  • Ensure the student recruitment team works ethically and transparently with individuals, families and partner organisations to achieve targets
  • Analyse and evaluate student and stakeholder surveys ensuring actions for improvement are identified and communicated to relevant departments.
  • Maintain central recording, monitoring and reporting of compliments and complaints
  • Expand and develop partnerships and relationships with local colleges, peer review groups, independent specialist colleges and other partners in learning
