Director of Science (maternity cover)

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Director of Science on a full-time basis to cover a maternity from December 2020. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing, friendly and oversubscribed 11-18 school located in Warwickshire, close to the border of Coventry, with 1017 pupils on roll. As a comprehensive school, they value all members of their community as individual people with differing needs and abilities.

This position of Director of Science is a key appointment and the successful candidate will be part of a small dynamic leadership team with a wide-ranging array of responsibilities. You will work collaboratively with the Deputy Director of Science, Assistant Principals, Vice Principals and the Principal on the shared mission to be a beacon of academic excellence. The school actively promote continuing professional development and you will receive substantial opportunities to develop as lifelong learners. This role would suit a middle to senior school leader looking for a platform to prepare for future career progression.

Key Responsibilities:

• The Director of Science is accountable for maximizing student progress, attainment and driving teaching and learning across the Learning Area through innovative curriculum development, robust leadership of the Learning Team
• To teach exceptional lessons that engage and  challenge all students.
• To create a supportive and stimulating learning environment in the classroom that helps all students to make excellent progress and develop as learners.
• To make a significant contribution to the values and ethos of the school.
• To actively promote and uphold all school policies, for example behaviour policy, assessment policy etc. 

The Successful Candidate:

• Qualified Teacher Status
• Qualified to degree level or above 
• Experience of raising attainment in a challenging classroom environment
• Experience of reflecting on and improving teaching practice to increase student achievement
• Evidence of continually improving the teaching and learning of their subject through schemes of work and extracurricular activities
• Successful teaching experience in the Secondary phase
• Experience of raising standards through leading staff development
• Thorough and up to date knowledge of curriculum area
• Understanding of the strategies needed to establish consistently high aspirations and standards of results and behaviour
