Job overview

Director of Science

Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR1 (£9,500 per annum)

Full time, permanent

Starting January 2020

Hethersett Academy is one of East Anglia’s best performing schools, judged as Outstanding by OFSTED in all areas. We are a growing village school with a strong history in the local community, with our convenient location just off the A11 also making us a popular choice for families in Wymondham and south Norwich.

We are looking for an outstanding director of science to help our students achieve even more.  The strategic aim of Hethersett Academy is to open a Sixth form in September 2022.  We see science as an integral part of our Sixth Form.  If you are looking for the opportunity to be part of developing an exciting curriculum and deliver innovative lessons, across all key stages,  which enable the highest level of pupil progress and attainment, then we want to hear from you.

We offer opportunities to take leadership of a whole school project alongside your teaching role, support with the NPQSL or other agreed leadership training, and associate membership of the middle leadership team as a professional development opportunity, where appropriate.

We regularly review our practices to ensure that teachers can concentrate on teaching and students on learning. This includes a rigorous behaviour policy where every member of the school community takes responsibility for their actions. We have a contact ratio of less than 80% which gives our teachers the opportunity to plan and mark during the school day.

This key role will give you the opportunity to work with senior leaders and the subject team on curriculum development and play an important part in creating a department that aims to set the standard nationally. You will have a willingness to work with the wider Inspiration Trust science team to deliver an exceptional knowledge rich curriculum.

Support and professional development is a priority at Hethersett Academy. We have a strong sense of coaching and collaboration which means that your practice is constantly developed, alongside weekly training sessions that are tailored to you.

We are part of the Inspiration Trust, twice ranked the country’s top comprehensive schools group for secondary progress, and strongly believe in the importance of giving the widest educational opportunities to all young people, regardless of their background. We have strong teaching networks across the Trust, with opportunities to work with a diverse range of schools and partners.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged; please contact Fiona Hamilton, PA to the principal, on 01603 810924, email fionahamilton@inspirationtrust.org

Closing date for applications: 12pm, Monday 7th October 2019

Interview date: w/c Monday 14th October 2019

Inspiration Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All staff appointments are subject to satisfactory references and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks. We are an equal opportunities employer.
