Job overview

Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) is the largest Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) in the country, with an annual budget in the region of £230 million and almost 6000 employees. The Trust supports a national network of 66 primary, special and secondary academies and educates 35,000 children across England.

The Trust has recently appointed a new Chair Jack Boyer OBE and Chief Executive Julian Drinkall. These hires are part of the further development of the Group’s management team and strengthening of the Board. The trust is now seeking someone for the newly created role of Director of Secondary Schools. This person will join the organisation at a point of significant change, as a result of a wider review of the Trust’s governance and organisational leadership. They will be accountable to the Chief Executive and will drive the improvement of the Trust’s 29 secondary academies.

AET is seeking an experienced and innovative senior education professional, with a record of successful strategic leadership and sustainable academy improvement in secondary schools. Candidates will, ideally, have experience of working across multiple schools to deliver results as well as an understanding of raising standards with measurable outcomes and clear evidence, ideally gained in a successful local authority or academy trust.

Multi-Academy Trusts are a core part of the Government’s educational agenda and as AET is a designated “System Leader” in the Department for Education’s national academy programme, this presents a significant opportunity to have an impact on the English educational landscape, and with it, the lives of thousands of children.

Our Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the DBS.
