Reading Blue Coat SchoolReading

Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat is a leading independent day school of 785 pupils; 705 boys aged 11 – 18 and a further 80 girls in the co-educational sixth form. The School is located on a beautiful 46 acre campus in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading.

The School employs over 170 staff, of whom 50% are academic staff. The School provides a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical and creative potential.

An enthusiastic and inspiring academic leader is required from September 2021 or January 2022 to lead our Sixth Form of 269 pupils.

As a member of the academic management team, reporting to the Deputy Head (Pastoral), you will be responsible for overseeing the organisation and co-ordination of all matters concerning the welfare and development of the Sixth Form students, but with a particular academic emphasis. Leading and supporting the Sixth Form Tutors and Heads of Years 12 and 13, you will engender an atmosphere and operate systems which promote and support the orderly, purposeful and harmonious environment within the Sixth Form, in keeping with the expectations and ethos of the School as a whole.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly effective teacher. A person of vision, strength and humanity, who demonstrates gravitas and presence. We value people who show independence of thought and creativity, whilst maintaining the highest standards of integrity.

Candidates must be excellent classroom practitioners with a real interest in pedagogy, and also have the energy, communication skills and charisma to lead and inspire others.

Candidates can offer any teaching subject, as long as it is currently on the curriculum at Blue Coat (see our website for more details).

The School provides a stimulating and vibrant environment in which to teach, and you will join a highly committed and enthusiastic academic and pastoral team.

Reading Blue Coat School has been recognised by the Daily Telegraph as one of ten independent schools offering the best value in the UK.

We offer an excellent salary and benefits package, dependent on qualifications and experience.
