The Faculty of Sport is growing at Bury Grammar School, and this is an exciting role for an ambitious and talented individual to develop this outstanding area and take it to the next level. With plans to introduce the Level 2 Sports Leader award at Key Stage 4 and BTEC Sport to our Sixth Form portfolio we are seeking and experienced Teacher of Physical Education who is as equally committed to a full enrichment programme as they are curriculum PE.
The successful candidate will be a sportsperson of proven ability, required to lead and coach at least one sport to an elevated level, and who will be confident officiating in at least two of BGS’s major sports. They will set the standards and the vision for a successful faculty and will have line-management responsibilities for other members of the Sports Faculty.
They will lead the work of boys’ 11-18 Sport and support the sporting provision of other areas of the school.
This is a high profile and rewarding position in a leading co-educational day school. The Faculty of Sport is energetic, supportive, collegiate and enjoys some enviable facilities.
The post holder will be required to review the effectiveness of current provision, assessing strengths, changing patterns of pupil participation and areas for development. They will ensure a cohesive and broad-minded approach to school sport and develop and deliver the overall strategy of the faculty.
The role requires strong leadership, organisation, communication and collaboration skills and will entail developing existing and new links with clubs, societies, professional bodies and people outside the school, for the benefit of the school and its community.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
· Support the leadership, strategy and cohesion to ensure collaboration across the faculty
· Support the development and implementation of a clear mission and aims for school sport
· Lead curriculum development for boys aged 11-16
· Ensure the highest standards of professionalism and commitment through example and expectation
· Promoting sport and healthy living across the school
· Working to support the improvement in the level of pupil-engagement in sports at all levels
· Playing a major role in the organisation of fixtures, training programmes and sports tours
· Having the ability to lead at least one Winter and one Summer major sport
· Communicating closely with the school’s marketing department
· Maintaining a close and cooperative relationship with other departments and Senior Leaders within the School
Management
· Taking responsibility for the Sport Intern
· Leading development meetings with departmental staff
· Ensure the smooth operation of all aspects of the department
· Ensure compliance with the school’s Safeguarding Policy
· Coordinating the deployment of resources
· Coordinating sports provision at Open Days and Taster Days
· Taking responsibility for coordinating inter-House events such as the Swimming Galas and Sports Days
· Taking responsibility for coordinating co-curricular sports activities and practices and ensuring provision is robust
· Updating PE Policies, schemes of work and risk assessments as required
· Ensuring the Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to
· Ensuring all sports and activities are covered by appropriate risk assessments
· Liaise with ground staff as required
· Developing a communication strategy for sport
Teaching
· Teaching PE and Games to the highest standard
· Recent experience of teaching academic PE
· Ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning across the department
· Keeping up to date with effective teaching pedagogy and coaching methodologies
· Ensuring learning spaces are a safe, orderly and stimulating environment for pupils and are covered by appropriate risk assessments
· Being a Form Tutor
Whole School
· Promoting the School Aims
· Upholding school policies, standards and expectations
· Attending staff meetings, assemblies, whole school events, INSET days, parents’ evenings
