Job overview

Port Regis is one of the country’s leading preparatory schools; an established and successful, co-educational, day and boarding school for children from the ages of two to thirteen.  Our reputation has been achieved due to our outstanding teaching and results, superb pastoral care and academic, sporting and musical facilities.

We seek a Director of Sport with vision, inspirational leadership, excellent communication and organisational skills and genuine belief in the benefits of sporting activity for every child.

Role Profile

The Director of Sport role is all-encompassing.  The Director of Sport is responsible for the vision, delivery, effectiveness and quality of the school’s sport and fitness programs.  He/she will be responsible for shaping and delivering a holistic programme of sporting activity, culture and philosophy that will develop the sporting potential and physical literacy of every child at Port Regis to the full.

The Director of Sport inspires, manages and develops a team including the heads of individual sports and clubs, specialist coaching staff and the coordinator of clubs and activities.  The Director of Sport also works closely with the Senior Management Team to balance the sporting needs and performance of pupils with the wider school opportunities and demands.  They also oversee the planning and delivery of all sporting events, as well as optimising a range of activities involving the local community.

The Director of Sport will continue to evolve and improve the sport and fitness provision of the school making sure the program is in line with current thinking and accessible to all children.  In so doing all pupils will be given the opportunity to play competitive sport while developing an understanding of the lifelong health benefits of personal fitness.

Port Regis children have a full and stimulating experience, including sport six days a week.  This fully immersive timetable provides the opportunity to work with pupils across a range of competitive and non-competitive sporting programmes offering both support and development in equal measure.

Given the range of academic and co-curricular programmes run at Port Regis, understanding and co-operating with directors of other areas of the school is an essential part of the role.

The formal job description sets out the key elements of the role in more detail.  However, in summary, the role has three key objectives:

1. To provide broad exposure to competitive sport.

2. To develop sportsmanship, confidence and resilience.

3. To develop in all pupils an understanding of the value and lifelong benefits of fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

The most suitable applicants are likely to have excelled in one of our key sports, have experience in delivering sports programmes to children and have the ambition and determination to stamp their own mark on a sports programme that already has an excellent reputation.
