Job overview

We are looking for to appoint a Director of Sport to William Perkin Church of England High School. William Perkin Church of England High School is one of four Twyford Trust schools, and the new post-holder will be joining us at a time of exciting growth and development.  The role offers a unique opportunity for a motivated and energetic leader to develop an innovative sport curriculum and extended offer for the four Twyford Trust schools using the Sport and Science specialism at William Perkin as the driving force. William Perkin School has excellent sports facilities, a tremendous range of contacts with professional cricket, rugby and football clubs and has a commitment to community engagement in sport. This is an unrivalled opportunity for a sports leader with an outstanding sports background and the ability to think strategically to deliver an outstanding sport provision for William Perkin and the Twyford Trust.

The Director of Sport will work, together with the Headteacher and the community facilities team, to deliver the vision for sport with its proud aim being the creation of a ‘Youth Sports Development Hub’ for West London.   There is a well-developed 14-19 academic curriculum offer including GCSE, A level and BTEC qualifications. The outstanding sport facilities enable all Year 7 - 11 students to experience a ‘sport afternoon’ with each student having an extended 100 minute session in the range of sports on offer.  Particular focus will be given to the showcase team sports selected by the Sport Development Team – Cricket, Rugby, Football and Netball.  The successful candidate will support the sport offer at all Twyford Trust schools through the sharing of best practice, the development of Trust elite coaching programmes and establishing an inter school sport competition in the main team sports.

After school in the ‘Extended Elective’ period from 4-5.30pm there will be ‘Sport for All’ programmes, alongside school team coaching and opportunity to join elite training programmes led by individuals with a very high level sporting or coaching background.  We serve our community by offering coaching and facilities to primary school children and delivering a full community-letting programme to selected anchor tenants.

We firmly believe that anyone who sees the school and meets the pupils and staff will be impressed by the strong community sense of purpose and desire to achieve.  If you have any further questions, or would like to arrange a tour of the school, please contact the Associate Headteacher, Mr Smith at ksmith@williamperkin.org.uk

William Perkin Church of England High School opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students, and now has six year groups (7 - 12) totalling almost 1,000 students in Year 7 – 11 and around 160 students in Year 12. The school is founded on the successful systems and approaches of Twyford CE High School, with the principle difference that it is a distinctively Christian school with open admission criteria. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants. The Twyford Trust’s fourth school – Ada Lovelace CE High School – opened in September 2018 and is temporarily based in additional accommodation at the William Perkin site until its own new building opens in September 2020. Ada Lovelace currently has 125 students in Year 7.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum from Yr 7 –Yr 13 which has been devised by staff within the four schools and we have a thriving 6th form co-ordinated across 3 of the school sites. The Trust is also the hub of Teach West London and prides itself on high quality, peer-led CPD within a dynamic culture of self-improvement.
