Job overview

We would like to appoint a Director of Sport to join us in September 2023.

As Director of Sport, your leadership, your knowledge and love for sport, and your commitment to diversity and inclusion are your most valuable qualities. These will help you build our vision for the future.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for an experienced individual who understands first and foremost the value of education through sport. Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT) has a long and proud history of sporting endeavour, but we recognise that the role of sport in society is changing.

We want a leader who will head a collaborative process to ensure that VIAT stays at the forefront of school sport. We also want to look at new opportunities to share our facilities both locally and nationally. This role will suit a highly skilled individual who is good at getting the best out of others.

Are you the right candidate? First and foremost, you will be a fantastic ‘people person’. The successful candidate will be able to build strong relationships at every level in the Trust. You will have a clear vision for the role of sport in education – both primary and secondary. You will be equipped to develop a coherent sports faculty at VIAT.

For full details of this position please see the Applicant Information Pack. Interested candidates who welcome the opportunity to visit the school before submitting an application can contact Mrs E Owen – e.owen@viat.org.uk, PA to Trust Executive.

To apply for this position, please complete the VIAT application form. Completed applications should be sent direct to Mrs E Owen.

Our schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

About Valley Invicta Academies Trust

Welcome to Valley Invicta Academies Trust (VIAT).

I have the privilege of being the Chief Executive Officer for VIAT and our exceptional cluster of five primary schools and four secondary schools.

All our schools are in the Maidstone and Malling area of Kent, and sit within the heart of their local communities. Our main campus, just outside Maidstone town centre, is home to three of our secondary schools, one of our primary schools, extensive sports facilities and our main business offices.

Within VIAT, our students and staff are the priority. Our close-knit teams work tirelessly to ensure that every child is encouraged and supported to be the best they can be, through an innovative and interactive curriculum and a wide range of outside-school opportunities, including specialist clubs and inspirational trips.

We understand the importance of collaboration within the Trust and are always looking to improve the way our schools can work together for the benefit of our students. We also continually invest into our schools, ensuring our facilities are second to none.

I am incredibly proud of VIAT and what it has to offer, and excited about developing the provision for our schools as well as, more broadly, our overall vision for the future.

I am very lucky to have a team of talented, passionate people around me, who are on hand to make sure that, as a Trust, we live by our values. I have no doubt our collective drive for great teaching and learning will continue to put our pupils and students at the heart of everything we do as we move forward.

Richard Hayden
