Job overview

We are looking to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and driven teacher or experienced coach with a real passion for sport. They will have the opportunity to work in a school where there is a love for sport at all levels from our Prep School to Senior School. They will be supported by an outstanding team of teachers and coaches who provide expertise in our major sports: hockey, rugby, netball, tennis and cricket.

The College has support coaches who work part time such as former England Internationals Chris Jones (Rugby), Ryan Sidebottom (Cricket) and Craig White (Cricket). The school is currently planning to build a new floodlit Athletics track by the start of the next academic year and offers a number of different sports through our Yorkshire Grit Programme. With three major courses within close proximity, golf is another favourite at Scarborough College.

Sport and Scarborough College are synonymous. Sports and games form an integral part of school life and there are plenty of Scardeburgians, past and present, representing their countries at international level. In recent years our girls and boys hockey teams have been crowned Yorkshire Champions, our rugby teams have continued to do well in the national cups and our cricket 1st XI and golf team hope to challenge for national honours this year. We have also achieved impressive results in netball, tennis and athletics. With excellent sporting facilities, we play regular sporting fixtures throughout the year. In addition, we organise a great deal of overseas tours, including hockey tours to Holland and cricket tours to the Root Academy in Spain.

Scarborough College is a school with 460 pupils from 3-18. We pride ourselves on being a family school with virtually every child representing the College in at least one sport. We are also a school that has great ambitions for the future and aspires to challenge nationally in a number of sports. The person appointed must be a well-qualified individual who shares this ambition and be able to inspire our determined and gritty children.

If you are ready for a challenge, have a good sense of humour and love teaching/coaching, we look forward to hearing from you. For more information, please contact the Headmaster for further details.

Scarborough College is a coeducational independent boarding and day school for pupils aged from 3 to 18 situated in the beautiful seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It has delivered the International Baccalaureate Diploma within the Sixth Form since June 2006. There are three sections to the College journey: the Pre-school, the Prep and the Senior School.

The Scarborough College Company was founded in 1896 as a boarding school for boys. In 1972, it opened its doors to female students and presently educates approximately 400 pupils.  The campus is situated only 15 minutes from the beach in the South Cliff area and the College enjoys excellent facilities.

Values and Vision

Above all, our commitment is to discover and fully realise every child’s potential by ensuring that all pupils are seen as individuals whose specific needs are recognised and met.  We are dedicated to providing a far-reaching education that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom, underpinned by strong lifelong values, which inspires academic excellence and ensures pupils are challenged. Regular opportunities to understand their own capabilities through exposure to a broad range of sporting, cultural and creative activities, widens our pupils’ horizons and builds their self‑confidence.  Within our outward-facing, grounded and caring community the relationships that exist nurture tolerant, honest and compassionate people who will make a genuine difference in their futures beyond the confines of our school.

Ofsted

“Pupils achieve well in a school that they like. Pupils make good progress in the EYFS, the junior school and the senior school. Results in the GCSE, which have generally improved over recent years, show that pupils make good progress and sixth form pupils also attain good results in the International Baccalaureate (IB). Factors contributing to the pupils’ achievement are the very good attitudes to work which pupils bring to the classroom and the good teaching they receive.”
