Job overview

This is a superb opportunity for a visionary and inspirational leader in Sport to play a key role in taking a highly regarded and aspirational School Sports Faculty to the next stage of its evolution.

NULS was founded c.1602 and our sporting tradition and calibre is renowned in the region. NULS is Staffordshire’s largest and oldest HMC School with approximately 840 boys and girls across our Juniors, Seniors and Sixth Form. NULS enjoys an enviable academic reputation but our emphasis has always been to holistically educate and our commitment to sporting excellence is long-standing, and now primed to further rise.   Our 30 acre site offers impressive facilities and superb further potential, including extensive playing fields and pitches, a wonderful Cricket pitch and pavilion, Swimming Pool, Floodlight Astro, Junior and Senior Netball and Tennis courts, Sports Hall and more, which we are currently seeking to add to as we enter planning and propose the build of a second larger state-of-the-art Sports Hall.

Girls and Boys Sport has a mantra of sport for all, but with high level performance also a principle aim, through an extensive sporting curriculum delivered by an able team of sports teaching staff and specialist coaches. Our ambition for Sport is considerable and we now seek a new, forward-looking and highly motivated Director of Sport who will contribute to, and lead the implementation of, our vision for Sport over the next decade.

Newcastle-under-Lyme-School is the region’s leading independent school and attracts pupils aged 3-18, from a large area of North Staffordshire, South Cheshire and North Shropshire.  The school sits on an attractive 30 acre site in close proximity to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre.  The school has an enviable reputation for academic excellence and is also well known for its high standards in sport, music and drama.

With Manchester and Birmingham less than an hour away and excellent rail and road links, the school is in an advantageous position within the country.  Newcastle-under-Lyme itself is surrounded by small towns and pretty villages and is in easy reach of the Peak District and North Wales.

Further information may be found at https://www.nuls.org.uk/join-us

The role constitutes regulated activity and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check, with a check of the children’s barred list, is required for this position, in addition to other pre-employment checks.  Registered charity no. 1124463.
