Job overview

Jersey is seeking to recruit an exceptional professional to lead our growing Standards and Achievement Team.  We are keen to hear from educational professionals with the qualifications, commitment and significant leadership and school development experience to help us continue to secure high standards in all of our schools.

Jersey’s educational system is broadly aligned with education in England, but with a distinct approach to school accountability and assessment. Our system of school development and evaluation aspires to achieve the highest outcomes for children and young people, based on a partnership model with school leaders. Our senior team members work as both Professional Advisors to Schools and as Professional Partners validating school self-evaluation.  As senior professionals, the team work across all phases in the Island’s community of schools.

The Island is in an exciting period of transformational change, two years into an Education Business Plan committed to raising standards, re-invigorating the curriculum, improving the engagement of families and securing greater freedom and autonomy for schools. The Standards and Achievement Team lead on the Standards and Curriculum pillars of the Business Plan, and contributes significantly to the others. Through the Plan we have introduced a consistent system-wide approach to assessment; refined well-established Moderation systems; created a new peer-led School Review Framework, and implemented the Jersey Premium, a local version of England’s Pupil Premium.

This role requires strong inter-personal, social and communication skills; strategic and analytical thinking, and the insight and drive to make a real difference to outcomes for students.  The successful post holder will have a strong and successful track record of achievement in the areas of school leadership, inspection services and advisory work at a local or national level. Whilst working across all phases, we are looking to strengthen our secondary school capacity.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant difference to the education service and inform education policy across the Island of Jersey.

Closing date – 4 June 2017

A copy of the Education Business Plan is enclosed.

To understand the role and the wider context of education in Jersey candidates are strongly advised to contact the current post holder, Seán O’Regan, Deputy Chief Education Officer, for a confidential discussion and for more information: s.o’regan@gov.je  or 01534 449426
