Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and aspiring leader to be in charge of the Engineering and Design Technology Department. The leader needs to be an excellent classroom practitioner who can teach GCSE, A Level and L3 BTEC.

UTC Heathrow has a fantastic engineering curriculum at both Key stage 4 and Key stage 5. The curriculum has been designed with the employer partners that we work with and support the development of both academic and technical skills. Our Digital futures program is unique only to UTC Heathrow and is the only program in the UK at the moment that supports the Data center Industry. The employers work with all students to develop the attributes and skills that they need at work, but also provide technical work aspects within the Engineering curriculum. These partners are internationally renowned as the best in their field in this sector and they need engineers.

All students at UTC Heathrow specialise in either Engineering or Digital subjects; at 14 they will also study a broad and balanced curriculum and at Post 16 the curriculum becomes more specialist with A levels in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. In addition, students can study a specialist BTEC Level 3 course in Engineering or IT/Computing. At capacity, we will be educating 500 students who will all have a passion for Engineering or Digital; it is a truly inspirational environment.

This role will provide you with:

  • Leadership development via our leadership programmes.
  • Working closely with leading industry employers.
  • Focussed teaching - only teaching KS4 and KS5 classes.
  • Small class sizes.
  • Opportunities for career development as the UTC grows and across Activate Learning Education Trust.
  • Be part of the Extended Leadership Team within the UTC.
  • An opportunity to be at the forefront of STEM education.

If you believe that this is an environment where you can thrive, develop and substantially contribute to an exciting future for UTC Heathrow, then you are encouraged to explore further by contacting HR, Nicola Griffiths, for a more detailed discussion, if required.

Completed application forms with an accompanying supporting letter should be emailed to HR@Heathrow-UTC.org

Closing date: Monday 6 February 2023

Interviews will take place later that week

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

UTC Heathrow is a mixed University Technical College located in Northwood in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It offers its 14-19 year-old students a range of full-time technically oriented courses with an emphasis on aviation engineering, maths and science. It currently has just under 200 students enrolled but this is expected to expand to its maximum capacity of 400.

UTC Heathrow {originally known as Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC} in 2014 - in response to growing demand for high-calibre professional engineers and technicians, aided by partnerships with Brunel University London, and major local employers British Airways plc and Heathrow Airport.

Students regularly get the chance to work on practical projects with these partners as part of their study, as well as more traditional classroom-based and workshop learning.
