Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a popular and successful College, which has a very strong reputation for the quality of its provision for its students as well as a strong culture of learning.

This is a new post, building on the excellent work done by our former Head of Careers, in which the post holder will lead and manage student transition and progression at the College. The progression of our students is arguably the most important indicator of our success as an educational institution. As Director of Transition and Progression, you will lead the College support for students in developing their understanding of the progression pathways available to them. You will ensure that in conjunction with the team, that consists of an Assistant Careers Co-ordinator, Careers Advisor, Careers Administrators as well as the Aspire Co-ordinator, advice and guidance is of the very highest quality, enabling students to make a fully informed decision about their next step. This role will also play a significant role in supporting student transition – both in terms of the transition from school to college right through to when they leave, continuing to build and evolve an extensive and committed alumni network. The successful candidate will also be part of the College Upper Management Team, collectively working to ensure our students thrive and succeed.

Applications are welcome from outstanding teaching professionals, who possess the necessary vision, dynamism, and relentless commitment to provide excellent progression advice and guidance for our students.

The role will be remunerated on the Godalming College Single Leadership pay spine, range L13-L15 currently £53,118 to £54,903 pa (including Fringe Allowance of £1,092 pa).

All applications must be made on the College’s application form (no CVs will be considered).  Your application should be accompanied by a covering letter of no more than 2 sides of A4 outlining how your experiences, skills and qualities demonstrate your ability to fulfil the job description and meet the person specification.

Full details and an application form can be downloaded from the College website.

Closing date: 9am, Wednesday 2 February 2022

Interviews are currently planned for Tuesday 22 February 2022.

History & Ethos

We are a ‘successful modern learning community’, providing outstanding education to around 2,000, 16-19 year old students.  The College enjoys an excellent reputation both locally and nationally.  Students make excellent progress and achieve outstanding results whilst at College but also feel prepared for their future and are more likely to gain a better class degree than those from other educational sectors and sixth form colleges.

Location

Godalming is a historic market town situated on the River Wey and close to the beautiful countryside of the Surrey Hills. The College is within walking distance of Godalming Town Centre and the Railway station.  Godalming is readily accessed from the A3 and free car-parking is available to staff on the College campus.

College Leadership Team & Staff

The Principal Emma Young is supported by the Senior Management Team. The college employs around 200 teaching and support staff who are committed to supporting students to achieve their goals through a broad mix of programmes and extra-curricular activities. There is a strong sense of community at the College with a lively, vibrant feel to the campus.

Facilities

Our campus is now second-to-none in offering modern, attractive, stimulating spaces in which to work and learn. We are constantly maintaining and upgrading facilities and have invested £15 million in new buildings in recent years. We have invested substantially in developing high quality IT and award winning online infrastructure, which means that student learning is supported by the best that technology can offer.

CPD

We understand that our success comes from developing our staff and supporting them to deliver innovative and individualised lessons. Godalming, along with other sixth form colleges in Surrey & Sussex belongs to a consortium known as S7 who work closely together to provide specifically tailored training and development for staff and facilitate meetings for specific groups and an annual teaching conference.

Benefits Include:

Fully equipped Gym available for staff use, Cycle to Work Scheme, Free car-parking on the campus & Catering service in staff room & food outlets/coffee shops.
