Reports to: Headmaster and HS Academic Dean

Overall Responsibility:

To provide leadership for the college counseling team in coordinating, managing, and administering a comprehensive college counseling program for all students.

General Responsibilities:

  • Educate students, parents, faculty, administrators, and board members regarding all aspects of the university application process, trends in university admissions, and the use of Cialfo and Unifrog, our internet based counseling software (or others as necessary).
  • Counsel students and families on the application processes for universities around the world.
  • As with other College Counselors, carry a portfolio of students (approximately 40 or fewer) to support through the college counseling process.
  • Respond to and manage all developments that arise over the summer including those associated with university decisions that are still in progress at that time.
  • Write school statements and individualized letters of recommendation.
  • Supervise/contribute to maintenance of databases with accurate historical student application outcomes.
  • Conduct classes, programs and/or workshops for students, parents, and faculty as well as individual meetings for students and parents.
  • Serve on the TASIS Academic Steering Committee and High School Academic Leadership Team.
  • Inform students and parents about the curriculum offerings of TASIS and advise students of appropriate curriculum choices to meet TASIS graduation requirements as well as prepare them to meet various university entrance requirements.
  • Consult regularly with college admissions representatives on current practices and admissions trends and to advocate on behalf of student applicants.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth and school exposure by participating in professional organizations, attending conferences, visiting college campuses individually and attending college-sponsored counselor events.
  • Host college representatives on campus.
  • Prepare an annual report detailing the application outcomes for the graduating class.
  • Prepare and manage an annual budget.
  • Work in collaboration with the TASIS Webmaster and Director of Communication to maintain an informative college counseling homepage and create/update the School Profile.
  • Work in collaboration with the Testing Center Coordinator for all tests relating to college preparedness.
  • Review continually the services and effectiveness of the college counseling program with a goal of providing the best possible resources, programming, and support for the TASIS community.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred.
  • Significant experience in college counseling and/or university admissions; experience counseling international students applying globally preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with experience working with the Microsoft Suite and the Google suite and other software as necessary.
  • Detail-oriented, organized with an ability to perform well under pressure and to meet deadlines, high professional standards and ethics, flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Comfortable and effective working and communicating with multiple constituencies and a diverse international student body.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience leading in a college counseling setting.
  • Experience using Cialfo, Unifrog, and Veracross.
  • Multilingual; Italian is the local language.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the IB and AP curriculum.
