Nelson and Colne College, an Outstanding education provider with excellent facilities and unparalleled staff benefits, are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic GCSE Maths Teacher to join Nelson and Colne College’s dedicated Maths and English team on a full time, permanent basis.


The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher, focused on student progress and supporting students into high quality educational and work based destinations. You will be required to keep up to date, plan and prepare high quality teaching as required by the Head of Division whilst ensuring close liaison and good communications with other staff in matters concerning students.  


There is also an opportunity for an exceptional candidate to become an Advanced Practitioner linked to a 3-year Centre of Excellence research project.


Main duties include:

• Teach GCSE Maths, delivering effective learning for students

• Be up to date, plan and prepare and high quality teaching as required by your Line Manager to the appropriate number of hours (810 hrs/annum)

• Develop and share resources for the subject including maintaining effective links across College for resources

• Regularly assess students in order to track and monitor progress

• Maintain comprehensive, up to date, student/subject records and provide information, as requested

• Be responsible for the appropriate administration of exam entries for the subject and liaise with external awarding bodies, as appropriate


The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English

• Recognised teaching qualification 

• Knowledge of, and proven ability, to deliver the curriculum successfully and recent experience of successfully delivering GCSE Maths

• Demonstrate a student centred approach to teaching and learning

• Experience of providing an outstanding teaching, learning and assessment experience

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
