King Edward’s School (KES) and King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) are looking to appoint a part-time Drama Assistant to work up to 30 hours per week across both schools. This could potentially be split into two part-time positions, with one assistant working 18 hours (KEHS) and the other working 12 hours (KES).  

 

Location: King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) and King Edward’s School (KES)

Salary: Grade 3 SCP 6 £21,028 FTE (actual salary £13,269 for 30 hours, £7,962 for 18 hours, £5,308 for 12 hours)                                     

Hours: Up to a total of 30 hours for a suitable applicant working across both schools (or split into one 18-hour post at KEHS and one 12-hour post at KES). 

 Hours to be worked flexibly in accordance with the needs of the Drama departments across both schools as agreed with the Directors of Drama. There is the potential to work for up to the equivalent of five six-hour days per week, but there will be flexibility about timings and hours. There will be some work on the weekends and occasional evenings

King Edward VI High School (KEHS) and King Edward’s School for Boys (KES) are seeking keen, talented and well organised individuals to join our Drama Departments and make a key contribution to the drama activities offered by the schools. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a professional standard venue ahead of future training or a career in acting, the arts industry or teaching. This position would be suitable for someone who enjoys working with young people and is keen to encourage a love of the arts.

Your main role will be to support the Directors of Drama and aid in the running of the KEHS and KES Drama departments and our associated performance activities throughout the year. The ideal candidate/s will be organised and able to use their own initiative and be familiar with the running of drama productions on a small and large scale as well as ideally being familiar with curricular drama, especially examined practical performances at GCSE, A Level and the IB.

Job Description


Purpose of the role:

 § Assisting and working alongside the Directors of Drama

§ Assisting with teaching the curriculum and creating resources to support class work

§ Supporting rehearsals for practical examinations and for co-curricular productions.

§ Supporting some of the Drama clubs

§ Supporting the administration and organisation of LAMDA lessons.

§ Source and help to create props and scenery, ensuring the inventory is kept organised and up to date, and that they are stored safely.

§ Work alongside pupils in all aspects of productions, from rehearsals to dress rehearsals and final shows.

§ Organising and supporting theatre trips

§ Answer queries about productions, clubs and the KEHS and KES drama department from pupils, parents, staff and the public.

§ Source materials for props and costumes, placing orders in person, via email and on the telephone.

§ Order refreshments for rehearsals.

§ Travel to purchase and collect materials for props and costumes preferably in own vehicle.

§ Ensure that all Drama Department spaces are kept clean and tidy, adhering to health and safety regulations.

§ Carry out administration for the KEHS and KES Drama Department, to include filing, photocopying, emailing students, creating posters, producing registers and other tasks using IT programmes including Microsoft Office.

§ Take minutes of Drama Department and production meetings.

§ Assist the Technical staff with basic lighting and sound tasks during GCSE, A Level and IB examined performances and club performances (training will be provided).
