Excellence is only the beginning.

Wellington School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Wellington, Somerset, for pupils aged 3 to 18.

But we’re more than just a school. We’re a community of educators and changemakers doing education differently.

Our ambition goes beyond exam results - it’s about the kind of world our young people will help create. We don’t just prepare them for the future; we give them the confidence, compassion and curiosity to shape it for themselves.

And we know that kind of education doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built by people - inspiring, thoughtful, passionate people. Our staff are the heart of everything we do. Whether you're in the classroom, on the sports field, in the lab or behind the scenes, everyone at Wellington plays a part in delivering an education that’s dynamic, meaningful and grounded in values.

Why Work at Wellington?

We understand what makes a great school: strong academic outcomes, outstanding pastoral care and a vibrant co-curricular programme. You’ll find all of that here.

But you’ll also find something rarer - a school with a living educational philosophy, not a static one. A place where you're trusted to lead, encouraged to innovate and supported to grow. We don’t ask “what’s always been done?” - we ask “what else is possible?”

We’re a staff culture that’s collaborative and energised - full of professional conversations, bold ideas, shared purpose and deep respect. This is a community that reflects the very same principles we live and teach. We explore what education can be - to help shape what comes next.

Our Four Principles

At the hear of our educational approach are four clear, lived principles that underpin the way we teach, learn, and lead:

Embrace complexity – In a fast-changing world, we encourage pupils and staff alike to stay curious, let go of perfection, and lean into challenge with creativity.

Spark connections – Our best ideas come from the collision of perspectives. We think beyond silos - valuing interdisciplinary work, whole-child development and collaboration across teams and subjects.

Lead together – We believe leadership is a shared act. We build it side-by-side, not top-down. Every voice matters - staff, student, and community alike.

Act today – We don’t wait for opportunities, we create them. Our students are empowered to make a difference now - and we lead by doing the same.

These aren’t just educational values - they shape the culture you’ll work in too.

More Than a Job

Walk around our campus and you’ll see something special: confident, grounded young people who are quietly becoming leaders - often without realising it. You’ll also meet dedicated, thoughtful staff who care deeply about what they do and how they do it.

Whether you’re teaching, coaching, supporting, or leading, your role here contributes to something bigger: an education that meets this moment, and builds for the next.

Education With Purpose

We’re not in the business of producing compliant learners. We’re here to nurture compassionate leaders, curious minds and resilient, self-aware individuals - pupils who are ready not just to respond to change, but to lead it.

Wellington students leave us with strong academic credentials, of course. But they also leave with confidence, character and a sense of purpose - and that’s down to the adults who inspire them every day.

This is education that’s as bold as it is grounded. As future-facing as it is personal. And as serious about excellence as it is about joy.
