Job overview

Harris Academy Clapham is opening in 2020! Join us in making a valued difference. We are looking for a hardworking and dedicated DT/Art and Science Technician to join the dedicated team of a brand new academy in Lambeth.

Your Opportunity:

Located within easy reach of both Clapham Common and Clapham South tube stations, Harris Academy Clapham is at the heart of Lambeth and serve a disadvantaged but aspirational community. Your work will have the power to transform life opportunities where it is needed most.

The secondary school arises because of a shortage of school places as well as a lack of sixth forms offering a diverse academic curriculum causing some students to go out of the borough.

Working alongside Harris Federation colleagues who have wide experience in opening new schools, you will shape the ethos and culture of these new academies for the benefit of children in South London.

As part of Harris, you will join a community of staff dedicated to transforming education in London. With a multitude of progression routes  and outstanding CPD for support staff, expect to be supported throughout your career whether in our Harris Academy Clapham or in one of our 47 academies. Your ambitions are ample to the growing success of our academies, maintaining this means putting your ambitions first with a strong career progressive culture.  Join us in our mission to positively contribute to cultivating an exceptional learning environment for all our students.

What we are looking for:

  • Flexibility – we are a brand new school, starting with our first cohort of Year 7 students. We will need dedicated staff members to work closely during this exciting time
  • Commitment – we will all need to go above and beyond to make Harris Academy Clapham the best it can be.
  • Team player – Team work makes the dream work!
  • Sense of humour – Join us in creating a happy and healthy learning culture with our staff

About Harris Academy Clapham

Our school motto, ‘Everything is possible’ encompasses the  opportunities we will offer our students and staff to become the best version of themselves they can possibly be.

Being a brand-new secondary school opening in September 2020 with students in Year 7, allows us to shape a curriculum that is firmly embedded in values of integrity and honesty; developing our students to become global citizens. Our students will be both curious and tenacious about their own learning – as will you. Our purpose-built building will have state-of-the-art specialist facilities that include design technology,  performing and creative arts as well as dedicated science and PE areas.

You will have a passion to develop not only yourself but also your students. A close working relationship with the Clapham Sixth Form opening in 2021, allows our students to see their time with us as a 7-year journey and you to teach across the age range.

About Harris Academy Clapham

Our Aims and Ethos

Our vision is that ‘everything is possible’. Our students will be ambitious for themselves, they will work hard and be supported in turning their dreams and aspirations into a reality.

It is this vision that underpins the five values that staff and students at the academy will uphold:

  • endeavour – to relish challenge, never give up and learn to take sensible risks
  • self-belief – to believe that they can and will go on to achieve their ambitions
  • honesty – act with integrity, treating others the way they would like to be treated
  • excellence – not settling for second best or for the easiest option
  • global views – understanding their place in the world and how they can make it a better place.

A central core of our work at the academy will be to fully develop students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural well-being. We will ensure that our students understand their role in making the school and their community a safer and better place. We will look to do this in a wide variety of ways. including after-school activities, during lessons, school visits and working with a range of external organisations such as local and national charities.
