Newbury Manor School are looking to recruit an outstanding DT Teacher to join our Teaching team!

We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and committed DT teacher who will expand the learning experiences of our pupils.  

The successful candidate will be teaching and supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.

Newbury Manor School is a specialist school for 40 young people aged 7 to 19 who have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of needs, from those who are broadly average in their ability to others, who have more severe learning difficulties.

We provide a total environment where young people are offered safe, secure and predictable surroundings in which they can come to understand their own areas of difficulties and learn skills and techniques in order to overcome them. This ensures that they are able to fulfil their potential socially, academically, physically and spiritually and enable them to rebuild their low self-esteem and self-belief.

We require a motivated, skilled and resilient DT Teacher with experience of supporting young people on the autistic spectrum. The role will suit a qualified teacher who can demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and the ability to teach effectively across a range of subject areas, and across all age groups.

The successful candidate:

  • Will have a flexible approach and will be able to meet the changing needs of our young people.
  • Will be able to demonstrate significant experience of working with young people with complex needs, and have the confidence and skills to deal with the challenging behaviour that some of our young people can, at times, exhibit.
  • Ideally, will have experience of working with young people who require personal care and have complex communication issues. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and emotional resilience are essential attributes. As Class Teacher, you will direct and mentor classroom support staff.


You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff. Full training and development will be provided along with a bespoke induction programme and the ability to network with teachers across other Aspris sites.


The school is located in a beautiful, quiet, rural location in Somerset in a Georgian manor house, which has a range of outbuildings and extensive grounds. The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher and ideally have experience of teaching and supporting young people within SEN, along with the following characteristics:


Resilience – We support some of the most vulnerable children in society who have varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged. 


Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.


Organisation – You will have experience of organising, planning and teaching well-structured lessons tailored to the needs of the pupils as well as monitoring each students learning needs, adapting teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of each pupil.


Caring – Our young people require the best care we can offer. If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.


Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand the needs of the young people we support is vital

Newbury Manor School is a specialist school for 30 young people who have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of needs, from those who are broadly average in their ability to others, who have more severe learning difficulties.

We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by through experiencing our ‘culture of success.’ We support all young people to achieve successful adult outcomes so that they can lead fulfilling and rewarding lives.

We support young people between 7 and 19 years of age and offer a flexible range of packages including:

  • Day, weekly/termly boarding and 52 week provision
  • Full and part time
  • A broad and balanced curriculum, tailored to individual need
  • A wide range of accreditation
  • A focus on holistic outcomes for every young person
  • Direct or indirect therapeutic input
  • Carefully planned transition, including re-integration to mainstream / maintained provision, where appropriate

We are purposefully small so that we can offer highly bespoke packages of education, care and therapy for our young people. We strongly believe that some individuals will always struggle to ‘fit in’ to existing structures and will only thrive when their provision is tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.
